Hi everyone

I had a double whammy of good news yesterday, so thought I'd share it with you. I got a phone call last night offering me the job I really wanted in Dunedin :D , and also received an email yesterday from NZIS saying the following:

"I have now completed my initial assessment of your application and am happy that you have enough points to meet the selection criteria. The next step for your application is that I need to conduct a telephone interview with you. The interview will take about 20-30 minutes and will focus on your employment prospects and your knowledge of New Zealand. Can you please therefore let me know a date and time when you will be available for the interview."

I emailed back to say that I'd received a job offer, and got the following reply:

"If your job offer is full time and permanent then we will not need to do
the interview. Can you please get your employer to email or fax me directly the offer of employment and contract once it has been confirmed."

The manager in Dunedin is phoning me tonight about the job specifics (salary, holidays, start date, etc and I'm going to tentatively ask about relocation help) so I'll find out a bit more then, but the job itself sounds just what I'd been looking for!

Has anyone got any info on living in Dunedin? I've heard very conflicting things, so I guess it's down to the individual. I think it would suit me and OH, although I've heard it might be tricky for him to get a teaching job (Science).

Any other thoughts gratefully received.....I'm off for a lie down now (well, mentally lying down, as I'm still at work! ;) )...I feel like I've been holding my breath for the past 2 weeks!!

p.s. I've included below a link for photos of my cousin's triplets that were born on Sunday afternoon (hope it works) ...Mum and babies all doing fab (despite being 8 weeks early!). What an eventful week! xx

Congrats on the job offer. I really liked dunedin, very scottish feel like a lot of the south island and if I had a chance I would be heading somewhere close but the skill shortage for primary teachers is Auckland based so we will be off to the north island hopefully in august/september but if we get PR (we are not applying for PR until we have had a couple of months in NZ) we may move down south in the future.

Congratulations on the job offer. :clap That's great news. Let's hope you can reach agreement on the conditions etc.

Also, congratulations to your cousin on the triplets. They are beautiful and what lovely names. You must all be very proud. :D

We only passed through Dunedin briefly on our trip round the South Island last year. We didn't see much as we were busy trying to find a bank and it was raining very hard. I seem to remember it wasn't particularly cold though. OH and I were talking about Dunedin the other day and he said he thinks it has the steepest street in NZ?? It does indeed have a Scottish feel and the NZ tourist shop we went into was move Scottish than Scotland ;)

Finally, it's good news that NZIS have finally started to move. Long may it continue.

Thanks for the messages, it's good to know the link for the photos worked (never too confident with the technical stuff!)

I've also heard that Dunedin has the steepest street in the world no less, not just in NZ, I think it's called Baldwin street (I'm sure someone will let me know if I've got it wrong!).

I agree, it's good to know that NZIS are getting through the backlog of applications, I didn' expect to hear anything for a couple of weeks, so that was good news. Fingers crossed for everyone else too.

Well done you. :nice1 Go to the top of the class (pun completely intended). ;)

Not sure about Dunedin, never made it there during our travels. A quick use of the search function at the top of the page reveals a few threads and also, there is some info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunedin and the council's pages are at http://www.cityofdunedin.com/city/home.html

Good luck with everything and nice piccies too.

Dunedin's a great city - very Scottish (shares street names with Edinburgh - Dunedin is gaelic word for Edinburgh) and is built on hills rising up from some very nice surf beaches (St Clair and St Kilda)

With the university and teacher's college there are always plenty of interest groups to join and lots of entertainment.

We'll be looking to head there after a year back in my home town of Invercargill "acclimatising".

To be honest - it's best if you arrive in Dunedin and see for yourself if you like it or not. It may well be a good base for 18 months that will let you explore the rest of the SI, and perhaps the NI until you find the spot that's right for you.

Good work on the job offer - that must be a huge weight off your mind :)
