Does anyone know how difficult / easy it will be to book campsites. Do you have to book in advance or can you turn up pretty much on spec??? What are the busy seasons and sites - we are over end March / April, hope someone can help.
Would also appreciate a recommendation on a hotel (for first night) in Christchurch.
Many Thanks

I wouldn't imagine at that time of year it would be too busy. We came in January and never booked a site - there was always space available, only time we had trouble was at Mt maunganui turned away from two, but got a spot no probs at the 3rd one and they were all close together so wasn't a problem.
I'd advise just cruising along and stopping where you end up, if you get a good camp site book like Jasons there are lists of them available and usually your camper van people have loads of maps showing where the sites are! :nice1
Sorry can't help with the motel at Christchurch but someone else will be along soon I'm sure that will help on that one!

Easter holidays are from Fri 6th April through to Sun 22nd April. So if you're still here over the Easter weekend I would suggest booking ahead.
We've already booked our holiday away at Easter as the touristy places can get booked up pretty fast. Most places I rang around only had a few places left.

Do a Google on 'Top Ten' Camp Sites.
They will send you a brochure to the UK and included is a map of both islands showing their sites and also a discount voucher.

We're also over Mar/ April, some Top 10 sites will accept bookings eg Picton and Welly but others have said no need. But this is generally before Easter hols.
