Hi
Had my immigration interview yesterday, which lasted around 15/20 minutes. Thought it went ok, though some of my answers could have been better. Anyway, just as I was thinking he was going to say "that's fine, shouldn't be any problems" he actually said, he had to go through all my details to check everything, and would get back to me in the next 2 weeks. Anyone else had this sort of response? Is it likely to be good or bad news? My friend who emmigrated a year ago had the same CO, and he was told at the end of the interview that they had passed....
Any reassurances would be very welcome!!

Hi Helen,
as far as I know this is pretty normal. we got exactly the same thing when we had our interview in September. Our case officer told us we would get a decision within two weeks, and we didn't really have anything to worry about, but apparently its now their practice to pass every case to another officer with their recommendation for a " quick double-check". I think it prevents any accusations of favouritism or alternatively discrimination.
Just for info, we got our acceptance about 10 days after the interview. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about - they are just having to follow their process!
Hope that helps..

Helen, same for me -- I had a fairly short interview and then my CO said that her associate would need to look things over in case she herself had missed anything, and that I'd have an answer in 7 - 10 days. I think it was 9 days later I got the Approved in Principle letter. Best wishes for you -- it should be fine.

Good luck hkj and welcome to the forum, don't worry, they have to check matters anyway, and we all feel that interviews/exams haven't gone as well as we hoped - just a natural reaction. Sure you'll be fine and getting those blue stickers soon enough.

Exactly the same happened to us - don't worry.
Just keep watching the post 'cos you'll soon be getting that big grey envelope that contains all your original paperwork plus a letter that says 'Congratulations'
Those little blue stickers that have cost you a fortune financially and emotionally, not to mention all those sleepless nights are on their way, I'm sure.

Hi
Thanks for all the reassurance - I'll try and keep positive then!! Having chatted a lot with a friend who went through all this a year ago, we had decided it was all just a formality and the CO's just sit and tick the boxes, yawning as they go - but then when you have the interview yourself, it doesn't feel like that at all!
I know people usually feel they have made a mess of an interview when they haven't, but I'm the opposite - before, I have managed to turn an interview on its head when I should have sailed through it!!
I'll try to stop worrying !

Have a little glass of vino, put your feet up and just think of how far you have come, you are just approaching the finishing line - have patience!! :laugh
Hope you get the result you want.

We used an agent for the application aand had the same responce as you. The agent told us not to worry they have to get their senior to sign off all applications so you are told they have to run pass another person and get back to you.

Pretty much the same for us. He did say it might take slightly longer as they have to wait for a police check from the Netherlands as I also have dutch citizenship - I was not required to submit it as I have never lived an uninterrupted year there.

Hi
Thanks for all the previous reassurances, but its now nearly 3 weeks, and still haven't heard anything back. I e-mailed my case officer on friday, but still no response.... I'm starting to get worried! Its starting to feel like expecting a baby - you know something has got to happen sometime, but you're not sure when, and the longer it goes on, the more it feels like it'll never happen!!
On a more serious note, we are going over on holiday in 5 weeks time, and I would really like to email a few companies with general enquireies, and submit a couple of specific job applications, saying that I have the right to work in NZ and that I will be available to attend for interview - I'm just hanging on, waiting for the news back from immigration, and I'm getting to the point of thinking I'll just have to write anyway, and say that I hope to hear soon.
Anyone got any advice as to whether I should chase it up, or just hang on quietly?
Thanks
Helen

Hi Helen.
If it helps (and it probably won't 'cos I'm sure you feel like a coiled spring !) we waited about 3 weeks after our interview too. We also emailed our case officer and received no reply, then a couple of days later we received the big grey envelope in the post.
If it would make you feel better to email again and tell them about your impending NZ visit and that you want to try to set up some interviews - it can't hurt can it.
I wouldn't worry (yeah-right!!) It all sounds pretty normal to me.
All the best,
Julie

That does help - I was starting to think that there must be a problem, but if others have had to wait 3 weeks, maybe not!! Who was your CO?
Thanks

I had James Hoggarth - different scenario to yours as we had no interview. I'm pretty sure from talking to him that they have to get all applications checked by someone else on the team - maybe he's waiting for a second opinion? We enquired after our application in the latter stages and got a standard reply of - I will let you know when there is any news. Having said that, if it's driving you mad I don't think it would do any harm to drop him a very short polite email.

Hi all - many thanks for all your reassurances. After a lot more angst, I finally rang my CO on friday, and he said we had been approved "on principle". Saturday morning the letter came through the door!! Now our "holiday" to NZ in a months time, has become more of a 'sussing out the country' type of trip...
Exciting times!
