Hi Everyone

We received our acknowldgement letter this week from NZIS. They have said our case may not be allocated for four months and if the medicals expire in the meantime we will have to have them done again. Ooo err, we don't really want to pay out another £700. Has anyone had to do this?
Thanks

Julie and Steve

Hi Julie and Steve,

This sounds very strange to me, because there is a rule that medicals can expire but that has to do with the time it takes you send in your ITA. But you have sent in your ITA already including the medicals I guess. At the time of sending in your ITA the medicals shouldn't be older than 3 months. I do not know about any other deadlines.

When what you are saying would be the case, then nearly everyone would have to do second medicals, because it can sometimes take a long time before a case officer is allocated to your file.

Maybe someone else can add to this, but I would check this back with NZIS if I were you.

Cheers,
anita

We have been told by our agent that the medicals have to be received by the NZIS within 3 months of the medical date. As long as they do they can take as long as they like to OK them. They have had ours over 3 months and still no decision has been made. If you have any complications they are not happy with they can ask for further tests etc.

Mmmm...I'm with the others on this one. We would all have had to have more than one medical if this was the norm.

Never heard of anyone being told that before......how odd.

On the presumption that your medicals were lodged within the allocated time, I'd double check with NZIS if I were you.

Good luck,

Julie

Yes, check. You have entered them within the stipulated time frame, so it seems pointless to have to spend all that money again. Just ask for clarification, don't believe everything people tell you on the phone, and check the NZIS small print to see if there is anything on there.

Thanks for all your reassurances. I think we'll quit worrying about it and start worrying about Steve's interview next week for a job in Tauranga. Only joking, I'm not a worrier really.

Thanks Andrea
I'll let you know how he gets on, although Tauranga is looking a bit of an expensive area to live in.
