Hi, I'm filling out my "Application to Work in New Zealand" form now that I'm back in England so that I can return to take up my job offer (needed for my Skilled Migrant App ITA) and have a choice of three options.

First is for a work visa. for if I am going to travel to NZ to work

Second is for a work permit, for if I am in NZ and want to work

Third is for both for those in NZ wanting to work temporarily and be able to leave/ return to NZ.

Which is it for me?

The only one I can apply for being out of NZ is the work visa, but I would have thought I needed a work permit in order to work.

visas get you in the country, permits give you the right to live/work there. a work visa becomes a work permit when you enter NZ. so if you are outside of NZ you need a work visa.

Thanks, that's that answered. but there are one or two more questions that don't seem to fit in with my type off application.

One is "date I will finally depart NZ", hoping I won't because PR will come through long before permit runs out.

Do I just put in a distant date?

Another is what outward travel I have arranged from NZ. I think I was told I could buy a one way ticket now I have a job offer, so can I leave this blank? Or if not how could I buy a return ticket for my "distant date".

Also, do I ask for a multiple journey work visa to make it easier to pop back to the UK if needed?

For the purpose of the work visa/permit you will have to put a date. I think (and I am happy to be corrected) the longest work permit you can have is two years, and I am sure that you will need medicals now for a two year work permit (that wasnt the case when we had ours).... I think (and again I am happy to be corrected) you can only book a oneway flight if you have PR.
