Does anybody here know whether or not overseas teachers hired to teach in NZ get 100% credit for their overseas teaching experience?
I have recently gotten my NZQA Assessment report and NZTC Registration cleared so these are :nice1 .
Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob
I believe the NZIS will credit your work experience if its been obtained in what they call a comparable labor market. So this means in countries like the UK, USA, Canada, Australia etc.
They do have a list on their website of the countries that they consider comparable but I'm not sure exactly where that list is!
Hope this helps

I was trained in the UK.
When I started working as a teacher here in NZ I was given half a year for each full year of teaching I had done in the UK for my position on the salary scale.
I can remember being quite insulted at the time!
Over it now though.

Yikes - only half-credit? :no
Was that based on your individual case, or was/is it general policy?
Cheers,
Rob

as far as I know Rob it is general.....
I know someone who works for NZQA - will see what I can find out.
Stink eh?

Slightly different topic, but worth mentioning:
our principal applicant's (my wife's) profession (and Masters degree) is Dancing Teacher and Choreographer (NZ Occupation 33652). Note that this is in a different job category altogether from 'regular' school teachers, and that teachers in the sense of my wife's profession don't, I believe, need to register as teachers as regular teachers do. There may be similar situations (e.g., singing teacher???) relevant to forum members, so check relevant Web sites such as the NZ teaching council, for definition of 'teacher'.
May save you time.
Cheers,
Matt.
