Hi everybody,

Here goes my first question: I am currently getting my work experience evidence for the ITA, the problem is, what do I do about a reference from my current employer? I am claiming points for the type of work I do (I'm in IT), so I need to specify the kind of work I have been doing. According to the guidelines I need something on company headed paper; I have got someone senior to me to agree to write a reference, but he's not happy about doing it on company paper. I don't want to go to HR, as I don't want it known that I am trying to emigrate, and they probably wouldn't be able to comment on the work I do. I wondered if anyone else has had a similar issue, and could give me any pointers.

Thanks!!

Clare

hi Nightingale,

This thread might be helpful -- hope I copied the link correctly. I'm sure there are others also re: how to document your work experience -- you might try a quick forum search.

My ITA submission didn't contain a 'work reference'. All I did was provide proof that I'd been in employment for the last 10+years by providing the original offers of employment contract letters and the like.

Hope that helps...

I was lucky i had a good relationship with my boss and i knew he lived in NZ for 2 years so i dropped lots of questions into our conversations about NZ testing the water. He eventually told me he would love to come back here and was actually thinking of it so i took a chance and told him and he wrote me the letter the same day :nice1

I submitted loads of evidence, but my CO decided he wanted a work reference - I'm not quite sure why, but it might be down to the fact that our annual appraisals are all done digitally now, so no signatures anywhere on them. Similar to you, HR wouldn't have been able to comment on the work I do, so had to go to my line manager and ask for a reference - I hedged it in a round-a-bout, "considering going over for a year to test the water", etc way. I wasn't too happy about it, but he was ok - more worried about the fact that he might be losing me than anything else!!

Good luck!

Helen
