Hello again,

Two weeks ago we received our letter saying we need to send our passports to get our visas. And yesterday we booked our tickets for 25th March :nice1 . I will be going to Turkey in 2 weeks to say good bye to my family and have little bit stress free time. Although Mark is staying here till end of March, we started to pack everything. The house is full of empty boxes. (nowhere to move)

And today Mark came up with the idea that we need to make 2 different lists. One of them is general contents of boxes and the other one is for detailed information. Okay I understand the idea. But do I really have to put them in Exel sheets one by one which takes quite long. Is there any easier way to do that or all of you have done the same thing?

And one bad news our 3 cats have to stay here for at least 6 months so we can get ourselves sorted but Mark's mother is willing to take only two :(

PS: What can I do in Singapore till Mark's plane arrives as I will go there 7 hours before him?

Thanks
Asli

Book into the transit motel and get a few hours kip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Seriously this was the best thing we did, breaking up the journey and having a good sleep before the next flight!

packing boxes - If we had done our own I would have put on more detail than the packers did - I had five boxes all labelled 'kitchen' I didn't want to unpack them all to find the bits I needed here in our rental - some decent knives and more cereal storage containers, but had to do to find everything - so my suggestion would be to do a 'general' list - list the main items and from where they came in your house - eg - contents of kitchen top drawer - you will remember the sort of stuff you had in there when unpacking so will know what should be in there!

Although it was quite exciting unwrapping odd shaped packages to discover what was inside - a bit like christmas really!!!

Good luck!

IMO you're going to want fairly detailed packing lists, more detail than packers/movers normally supply. MAF inspection will be easier if you can identify contents in detail, esp w/r/t food and soil carrying items. Even better, if you discard or clean items they might be concerned about, you can avoid MAF inspection altogether. You'd need a good inventory to do so.

we just wrote on the boxes kitchen things etc, and gave each box a number to go on the list. the only ones we detailed on were the couple of boxes that had suspect items in. some shells and some wooden bowls etc.

Hi there
Our boxes were numbered and labelled room etc, we had no probs, I think the number will be the most important from MAF point, as much easier to identify, you can itemise as much or as little as you want after that.
Good luck

I wanted detailed lists, but couldn:t be bothered so I just took a digital photo of the outside of each box then a shot of each layer, and dumped all the photos on my computer. I didn:t have to write anything down, but still had a sense of what was in each box. For things I really cared about, I opened up the file explorer on the computer, set the setting to thumbnails, took a screenshot of all the images for that box, and printed that to tape to the outside of the box. Made it easier once we got here to know which boxes to worry about opening and which to just store for now. and which boxes to be more gentle with
