Others in English speaking countries who have applied for TC registration, please help!!

I am ready to send off my Teachers Council application today. I reviewed the application to discover that I might need more proof that I am English proficient!! I mean, I was born and raised in the US and all my education was in English. I even have a BS and MS in English!

Am I reading this wrong?

Page 5 of instructions for TC1 application:

"Applicants proficient in English"

(there are several items from which to select showing English proficiency. I chose the following)

"Teacher Education in English and in a country where English is an official language"

You are considered proficient in English if:
You completed your teacher education in English [Evidence required*] and
You completed your teacher education in a coutnry which has English as an official language

*This evidence will be in the form of a written statement from the institution confirming that English was the language of instruction for the qualification."

Surely I am mistaken about this. It makes no sense that I would need letters from the universities stating my education was in English when my degrees are English and I live in US??? I'm never going to get this finished at this rate. :no

Anyone else have to do this?

Thanks....!

Sorry I don't know the TC1 app. I'm just giving you a bump.

(Like you I couldn't imagine since your degree is in English and from a US uni. that they would need anything else. Even for bureaucrats, that would be an unfathomable level of 'nitpickyness'.)

Thanks, Jess. I agree it sounds totally ridiculous, but then again, many of the hoops we are jumping through to get to NZ seem to be quite convoluted.

I have everything ready to go...I quess I will need to call NZTC up and ask about this since it's so quiet here. I hoped that another teacher from US or UK could answer this for me, though! :no

When I read the application and the liturature attached, I found that the same list that applied for NZIS applied for the TC. The US IS an english speaking country. You don't need to verify that. Just send in your application.

That's what I thought...which is why their wording made me think either they are crazy or I am!!

Thanks for your reply! :D

I decided to play it safe and sent an email to my university. They sent a letter back to me confirming that English was the language of instruction.

The first rule of English as a Second Language Club is that you CAN'T talk about English as a Second Language Club.
