.... for 6 months?
Apart from having horrific weather!
Seriously, how would it affect my residence visa?

From what I gathered, you only have to spend 6 months in every year in NZ to keep your residence permit. That's what I understood from the seminar at the expo.

That's good, we'll just make it, we've been here 7 months!

Just make sure that you are in NZ for more than 184 days a year for the first 2 years. Count the days - not the months - just to be safe!

I'm sure you'll love it if you come back now, woke up today to 6" of snow and it's still snowing here in the midlands!
... maybe not so much after this week when the dreaded atlantic storms return and the days of mild, wind and rain. god bless the motherland!!
do you remember what -1ºc feels like ;) DON'T DO IT!

Doesn't the 184 days per year relate to whether you get an IRRV or just a shorter RRV? This is what our case officer explained as we activated our PR visa in October 06 and hope to move over July next year!! I'm sure this is the case :uhoh

I'm not sure if I'm going back yet, it won't be permanent if I do, just a couple of months, but I wanted to know how I stood. Apparently, if you have a valid permanent residence visa, you don't need a RRV, so I'm ok for a while.

I thought the RRV's were issued as PART of the permanent residency , as in I thought you had to have one unless you had a NZ passport? At least an IRRV?

I thought the RRV's were issued as PART of the permanent residency :confused:thats right - the second blue sticker you get as part of PR is a 2 year RRV.

Yes, that is right!
You do need a RRV's if you only have a PR...if yo u dont have an RRV then you can apply for one, it will cost you some money tho.

As evryone else says - you should have an RRV. A PR visa only allows you to enter the country the first time - its a single entry visa. If thats all you have - then if you leave the country they dont have to let you back in!
So just re- read your visa stickers. Genrally you get 2. One of them should say Returning Residents Visa. If you do not have that - you MUST contact NZIS before you leave NZ to find out why.
