I've been reading the SM section of the Operations Manual...very carefully. And I just want to see if this sounds right to all those that know their onions...

OH is a Mechanical Design Engineer with 18 years experience and various BTEC HNC/D's however no degree. The LTSSL has design engineer on the list but you need a Washington Accredited degree. The OM states that to claim bonus points for having experience from a job on the LTSSL, this includes all specifications attached to it i.e. the qualfication level stated.

Points claimed:

Work experience = 30 points for 10 years plus.
no bonus points for LTSSL (as no degree)

Qualifications =
BTEC CHD/HNC -level 5 = 50 points
No bonus for LTSSL as again, no degree.

Age = 25 points

So our total points are 105 without job offer.

Does this sound right to you? We want to submit our EOI (and hope for the best!) with the correct information. Has anyone ever claimed points for being on a the LTSSL and not had the specified qualifcations?

that sounds about right to me. if you have a recognised qualification too then you get another 10 points.

if you dont have the quals to go with the LTSSL its a bit pointless claiming points for it. you'll get selected then chucked straight back in the pool as soon as they look at your application (lots of people on here have had that happen to them)

with 105 points and no bonus points you really don't stand much chance of being selected - i don't want to sound negative about it but i'm sure you'd rather know. they select anyone with 140pts and anyone with 100pts and a job offer. then they work their way down the points totals but only selecting those with 15 bonus points for exp on the LTSSL, then those with 10 pts for exp on the LTSSL, then those with 10pts for quals on the LTSSL.

there have been 4-5 times in the past year where they've got all the way through those categories and started selecting people with no bonus points - everyone down to either 115 or 120 got selected. so i'm not saying its impossible. but you might want to have a plan B.

What you've said is exactly how I thought it would be :(

And yes we do have a plan B. And a plan c...possibly even a plan D!:laugh

It's just, we have a about 8 months to kill before OH can start contacting recruitment companies for jobs/interviews (long story) - the plan is for him to go out there (Jan) to do a reccy for us and attend any face to face interviews we might have set up at that time. If he gets a job then we send in (poss another) EOI.

Thats probably our most realistic and likely way of getting in. We just thought while we're waiting....

Anyway, many thanks for your help Trigirl!

Have you thought about other options? Obviously he is highly experienced, and if he could get a job offer then your points and "wantability" rocket through the roof. It may be prudent for him to make the trip down and do the rounds. And maybe the work to residence route?

good luck

Steve
