Just curious to find out how common it is for a women to use a doula (certified birth coach) during delivery. I gather most women deliver with a midwife, but was interested in learning what opportunities exist as a certified doula?
Thanks for any info you can provide!

as far as i know (my mum is a midwife..not here but in aussie but she had a lot to do with early childbirth education etc here before she trained as a midwife), doula's are becoming more and more a popular alternative to conventional ways of doing things so to speak. i read an article about a woman who is now a doula here in nz so there is definately some kind of demand for it.

Well you live and learn. I've never even heard of the word 'doula' before reading this thread, let alone know what it meant.
Just goes to show you never stop learning. Thanks folks.

There was a series all about doulas when I was pregnant with Alex - made fascinating viewing. They cook all your meals for you afterwards and everything - sounds fab! Hope you find what you're looking for!
