I am starting a teaching job in the new year, and am wondering when I wil start being paid. Is it in January or February?

Cheers,

Rob

Teachers are paid fortnightly. So for a start at the end of January, your first payment should go in mid-February I would think.

Do you know if the contracts actually start at the beginning of January - or not until the school year actually begins (Jan 28 for new teachers)?

Cheers,

Rob

Just a word of warning... when DH started teaching here it took a long time to get the pay situation sorted out. It was several weeks before he received any pay, for several weeks after that he was on the minimum salary while the MoE faffed around trying to work out his actual salary... now, five months in, he has finally received confirmation of what his salary will be, and back pay. So make sure you have some fund to tide you over in case this happens to you. Also, the MoE required yet another set of copies of certificates / teaching experience etc in order to grade his salary... the NZQA / NZTC assessments were not enough... flippin paperwork mad over here!

I would guess that your contract will begin on the start of the new school term.

My brother had the same problem with late pay when he started in NZ two years ago. First he didn't get paid, then they put him on the wrong pay point....it also took some time to get the overseas incentive payment, so don't expect it waiting for you on your doorstep!!
