Hiya,

I love, eat, breath music. Does NZ have charts? - tell me everything - are songs on the radio up to date to UK or totally different.

I love many styles of music - Opera to Rock, the list is endless.

What are your New Zealand influences

yep, they do and its pretty varied. its mostly pop,hip hop and indie at the moment though as charts do, it changes from week to week. the top 40 is on a friday night here on c4 which is the music channel here... www.c4tv.co.nz . they have a show called vodafone select live where they run the names of songs and a code along the bottom and you txt in what you want to hear and thats pretty indicative of where nz is at with music.
up to date wise, theyre faaairly up to date afaik but it just depends. mika seems to be picking up popularity here which is awesome..klaxons and the fratellis are on a bit as are the kooks (have had it up to my TEETH with them..if i hear "she moves in 'er own way' again ill scream!!!") fall out boy,all american rejectswith most radio stations etc being streamed through the internet now you wont feel distanced from the uk scene at all really.
other artists that are on pretty high rotation at the moment are akon, amy winehouse, beyonce, gwen stefani, kasabian, muse (more vid's wise than radio plays), my chemical romance (of course *sigh*), panic! at the disco, the killers..etc etc not a hell of a lot different to the uk really.

some good nz bands to have a listen too (myspace is good for this) are nesian mystik, atlas, falter and evermore to name a few. the nz version of hip hop (nesian mystik..) is pretty good and original. dub/reggae is still pretty huge down here, fat freddies drop, fly my pretties and the black seeds being some of the main players in this genre. there are some awesome indie bands around at the moment.. eg the tutts, cut off your hands (formerly shakey hands), the mint chicks. for more punk stuff theres "goodnight nurse". each may we have a nz music month where nz music is really showcased and there are extra gigs on and stuff. nz radio stations are pretty good with playing above and beyond the required nz music quota..we even have kiwi fm now which is 100 percent kiwi music and has loads of different shows that are genre specific as well as shows that play just about anything!

i seriously think you'll be grand down here..there wont of course be as much of the uk bands and artists played on the radio but you wont go without :)

blergh, that just looks like i had a word vomit..i just wrote as i was thinking! music is my passion and soon to be job so if you want to know anything else give me a buzz!!
