I have this very generic 'to do' list, and as I was re-typing it to suit our own circumstances, I thought a few of you might find it useful. Anyway here goes:

TO DO:

Job research
Contact recruitment agencies
determine salary level
research areas

School research
Schooling facilities
Housing market/land
Road/rail links
Climate
Local Amenities

NZQA Assessment
Complete and submit EOI
Determine emigation date
Order visa applications
Police certificates
Medical examinations
complete visa applications
despatch to NZIS London

House Issues
Investigate house market and determine target sale/rental date
select removal company
commence house sort
order skip for rubbish removal
Find out about unlocking of DVD players etc
network capability for mobiles
UK2/4 way adaptors in container inventory
deep clean garden tools and furniture
deep clean sports equipment
check TV licence expiry and investigate renewal options

Travel:
Investigate potential flight dates
Research cost-effective travel
Determine clothing needs
Arrange suitable amount of NZ currency
Collate travel file with all relevant documents
Investigate and book NZ accommodation

Insurances - to cancel/amend:
Life insurance and arrangments
Home contents
Car Insurance
Buildings Insurance
Consumer Insurance

Credit/Loyalty Cards
Settle outstanding debts and cancel
Inform company of emigation and removal from database.
cancel loyalty cards
claim any rewards

Utility Bills
Arrange settlement period
Final payments dates for:
Gas
Water
Electricity
Council Tax

Bank Accounts:
Determine if UK account is still necessary
Arrange for six-monthly statements if required
Open NZ bank account
Cancel standing orders and direct debits
Set up transfer arrangments to NZ account

Pensions and Benefits:
Suspend pension contributions
Inform pension provider with contact details when known
Inform Benefits Agency of emigration date.

Inland Revenue:
Inform IR of emigration date
Outstanding tax liabilities to be completed if applicable

...and not particularly in that order :)

Oh yes Pets (sorry!!! ):o

Pets:
Contact DEFRA for latest regulations
Arrange testing schedule with vet
Contact transit kennels and discuss provisional dates
Plan flight date to work in with NZ house plan

Phew. :D

For those with children you might want to include contacting Child Benefit Agency to cancel any child benefit. Not sure but I think you can do this online.
