How bad is this "waiting for broadband" in NZ overall?
Feels like the discussion is about a city in rural Africa.. |

Thanks for all your suggestions. We're getting a phone line installed and will have to put up with dialup till a port becomes available. Is a bit disapointing as it's going to make things much more difficult as I wont be able to work remotely for the UK and Skype is out.
We've spoken someone at a local internet cafe and it does sound like there's not much we can do and the issue will be the same regardless of the provider as it's all at the mercy of Telecom. We also looked into wireless broadband and mobile but barely get a signal on our mobiles so that's no good and wireless providers don't cover our area. If anyone knows someone at Telecom who can tell us details about the length/time of the queue that would be great! Couldn't get much out of Orcon - they tried contacting Telecom while we were on the phone but couldn't get much out of them either. It does sound very address specific (even within the same road) due these cabinets. Cheers Andy |

We feel your pain
![]() In rural Canterbury here we too are waiting on the ports to come free. Last time we talked to Telstra, our provider, the longest waiter was 190 days and we're 5th on the list so we've signed up with Scorch. Not much help in your parts I know. |

It's ridiculous a wait like that in the city. Have you looked at mobile broadband?
