Please note that I am not asking for immigration advice...
however if a friend would like to tell me that would be great. Will phone Immigration tomorrow for offical advice. Work permits - can anyone get a work permit WITHOUT a job offer? I've been to an interview where I was told that a previous candidate had stated that they already had a work permit but were not yet working in NZ(they were from USA if that makes a difference?) I said that I needed a job offer to get a work permit and they asked me to check this (I don't qualify for any permits/entry programmes etc for young folk ![]() Ta ever so |

You can not normally get a work permit prior to having a job but you could have applied for a PR without a job offer and thus be granted a work permit when you arrive in NZ. Ian |

well the employer rang me early this morning and asked me why an American applicant had a work permit with no job offer but I didn't and was I sure couldn't I get one?
After telling him I really was sure that I couldn't but that I had everything else in place (apart from job offer and form filled in by them the employer) I was then asked whether I needed a permanant job or LTR (long term reliever like a temp job offer) to get a work permit. Now- I would prefer the permanant job rather than LTR because I've read in a post here before that LTR means I can't claim points for EOI whereas if it is a permanant offer then I can claim the points. It might end up being a temp job in the hand or a permanant job in the bush if you see what I mean. they have conveyed that they are considering my application but they are worried about the time needed to process the work permit so... if I can find an office with a quicker turnaround time than Auckland (at the moment they don't list permit processing times on their website but will ring later) e.g. Wellington says 91% processed within upto 10 days - can I 'pop' down to Welly or do I have to submit in AKL? If so what are the pros and cons? |

Hi there, i think one option is Partnership work permit, then you dont need job offer, otherwise only WHS(max 3months) dont think there is more options than this.

not giving immigration advise ...just repeating a conversation
chatted to AKL Immi - if offered a temp job (for at least 12 months) then I can use this for points for EOI I have to apply to branch for work permit in the region where job is offered at the moment AKL processing time is 30 - 42 days oh well - all pie in the sky until I actually get a job offer |
