there are a couple of work permits you could get through visas but they are dependent on age. One is a working holiday visa and the other is BUNAC. There may be others but these are the ones that came to mind.

Hi Tea Drinker

Expanding on what Victoria24 said, I had a choice of Wellington or Palm North and I thought Palm North would be quieter on a Friday afternoon. Went along and the lady on reception said that because my job offer was in Taupo then she would forward all my paperwork to Hamilton as it was the closest office to Taupo.

I then heard a voice from one of the booths saying that she wasn't doing anything and she would take a look at our paperwork there and then. I had all my supporting paperwork with me and thought she would just pack it all up and post it to Hamilton but was very surprised when she said "do you want the permits for 1 year or 2?" She then processed 2 work permits, 1 visitors permit and a student permit all in an hour. She was a very nice lady.

So a little tactical thinking paid off but if you have any worries/questions then go to your local office and have a chat (I find the face to face approuch tends to pay off more than a phone call). While you are there you can check out the length of the queue.

Cheers

Alan

Thanks for that L00pback
AKL doesn't have a face to face for work permits they have to be posted in so think that's the only option - bit of a trek to any other branches on the off chance they will process them there and then (unless anyone knows different?)
