NZ bureaucracy is a breeze and a doddle compared with somewhere like....say.....India.

I suppose everyone's experience is going to be different but aside from the time it took to process, my application went through pretty smoothly. But I suppose I'm a fairly straight forward case compared with others on here.

At least the process (though muddling) is transparent... and corruption free... |

You have to remember, the fees we pay are the grease that turns the beureacracy machine.
Ive just completed my electrical exams, 1800 dollars in course fees and now I have to pay to register myself on the electrical register Mustnt grumble |

Why don't you compare with the best? What I'm learning and experiencing right now: The council has a lot of people working because of bureaucratic legislations. These legislations demand for all kinds of "specialist reports", no matter if they're logical or not. So, the bureaucratic workers at the council don't want things changed to keep their job. the bureaucratic council doesn't want things changed to keep their money making machine. the bureaucratic specialist bureaus don't want things changed to keep their extra income, or even basic income. To me, this is on the edge of a corrupt system. And who's paying to get their lives controlled to the effect that NZ has a boring housing stock that only is built to last 50 years?
