In the cities and larger towns, supermarkets and other shops deliver circulars to tell potential customers about bargains in the coming week.
One of the main sources of litter, apart from discarded fast-food wrapping, can be circulars that have fallen out of mailboxes.
Many people put a sign saying "no circulars" on their mailboxes so they only receive official mail from NZ Post.
