|
|
Hi,
I am a new member on this discussion forum and would like to acknowledge everyone for all the important/helpful information being posted daily regarding migrating to NZ. I have done the online EOI and garnered 115 points but was thinking if it is worth submitting the EOI now or maybe a waste of money since the pool might be full of better marks. Has anyone there with 115 points submitted their EOI's?
Need your advise.
Thanks. |

Hi....
Don't know I can advice you to submit...but I had the same points and same considerations, but thought what the hell and submitted anyway. I did mine on-line and when you submit you get a rough idea of how many had applied. I think at the time...ooh, all of 3 days ago, there had been approx 1000.
I know it doesn't answer your doubts, but it may help to know there are others in your situation. |

I'm not sure either what to do,
but for the time being I just wait and try to find a job offer.
But as I understand you can do an EOI as often as you like,
so even if they throw you out of the pool after 3 month, you can
try it again. So you don't loose anything (just your nerves).

But I'm confused how can we get a job offer, since everytime there's an job opening (on the bottom of the page it says "You have to be a permanent res....to apply"). It seems like there is no way for foreigners to get a job offer and get a bonus points while they're applying for PR for NZ. |

Xanctus,
that is the most tricky bit, most companies don't give you a job with work permit, and without job it's difficult to get work permit.
But there are some sites on the internet were you can leave CV's, you apply to companies that need your skills.
http://www.workingin-newzealand.com/
this is one of these sites.
Ofcause it is much easier to search for jobs while you're in NZ, but I gave my potential employers some dates when I'm in NZ and could come for an interview. I heard some people did an intevies via video conerence or even telephon inteview.
Just keep trying

| I submitted for my husband and myself with only 115 points....we desperately want to get to NZ, and if I keep waiting, I will only lose points for age, as I turn 45 this Friday, and that lops off another 10. We are hopeful that our qualifications (I am in publishing, so that falls under the creative future growth category) and my husband is in nursing, but he is 47 and doesn't really want to stick with that. So we are trying to get approved while we have what few point we do. That's just our situation, the longer we waited, the worse it would get. Does anyone know how long you have to move down if you are accepted for residency? I thought it was a year, which would be ideal to sell house and get animals prepared for quarantine, but I don't know for sure. Anyone? |

Xanctus,
I have been hunting for work also.
Infact I received a positive response on sunday night with a 40min phone call from wellington. I think to be honest the door to door salesman technique may be required. Certainly I have learned in the past that you have to be at the right place at the right time.
Its no use submitting a CV and then sitting back waiting for a job offer (not saying that you do of course). You really need to be proactive almost to the point of pestering these people.
It also helps if you are due to go out there on a visit. I got more positive responses when I told the the dates I would be in NZ for.
Dont give up

Carl,
Thx for the encouragement and input, I appreciate it...
I will try to do what you're doing and also put my resume one of the job finder website. |

Hi there
Apparently 1000 per month entering system but not sure if these are completed applications or just playing.
At such low numbers NZIS will either take all and sundry to keep inflow of workers up, (low points will be OK), or they'll take a few to sample the process and talk about it, maybe hoping that total inflow increases so they can report a higher overall pass mark later.(and the hell with the people waiting).
My hope as a kiwi is the former, my expereince in some of my previous dealings with NZIS makes me less sure.
Nah, stuff it, get in there. |

Dear All,
I have started this post and would like to thank everyone for your valuable inputs. Guess Jamie is right, just stuff it and get in there. Who knows, maybe one of us with 115 points will luckily be selected.
Good Day!!

Hi Again SoCalGal!
Once an offer of residency is extended, you have 90 days to act (recently changed). Better to get the animal's tests, etc. now as they cannot come in earlier than six months after the first (of two) rabies tests. Although I am told that the MAF may issue a Dispensation for 4 months if you can provide all of the medical records they request.
This also might help with regard to your pets...

Here's a link to a very nice quarantine facility in Auckland (but be prepared, importing animals is very expensive! )

Best of luck! |

Thanks, Rich, that is good to know! It's these "little" things that make this forum such a great trading post of info! It is my understanding that for 5 pets from the U.S., we are looking at about $4,000 - but like many have said, they are family, whatch gonna do? Just as an FYI, pets that have lived in Hawaii for at least 6 months and are properly documented with vaccines, etc., can come straight into NZ, no hold-over in lock up for 30 days. With the cost of the lock-up, it might be cheaper to move to a campground in Hawaii for 6 months, ha! |

Hi SoCalGal,
Pets are indeed family and who could part with them?? I had to move to Hawaii for a time and the downside there is that pets from the mainland have to be in quarantine for three months (used to be six! ) We lived in Kailua and had to drive to the far side of Honolulu to vist the poor things every weekend.
Btw the quarantine, airline shipping, blood tests, yadda, yadda...we must REALLY love them huh?!
Keeping good thoughts for you! |
