Hi
Myself and my family are seriously considering a permanent move to NZ in the next 5 years .. is there any point making serious applications to any authorities yet or should we just start saving and bide our time??
Also - I am a legal secretary at the moment but in 2 years will be a qualified english teacher. my husband is a financial adviser and we have a daughter who will be 17 in 5 years time. can we take my mum with us (or will be 57) who is a nanny/childminder or will we be penalised because of her age?
haven't even started looking at information yet ... any suggestions of where would be a good place to start?
many thanks! |

Dear Jasmin
A good start for info would be the NZ Immigration website at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/
I think you might be interested in applying under the Skilled Migrant Category, but a job offer is helpful as this raises your score, as the SMC is based on a point system.
The process might take about 6 to 8 months orlonger, and once you are approved for residence, you will have 1 year to travel to NZ. If you do not travel during this 1 year period, your residency gets cancelled and you have start with a fresh application.
Since you plan to move in 5 years, we never know what changes will be made to the NZIS migration policy during this time frame.
good luck

Hi Jasmin,
A lot can happen in 5 years! I am assuming this time scale is to get your daughter through her education and to get you some teaching experience?
A few potential problems present themselves...but then they do with any migration process so nothing unusual there.
Firstly when you are qualified as an English teacher you may have to have your qualification assessed by the NZQA and the NZ Teacher Registration Board so make sure your qualifications are suitable.
Not 100% sure about your mum and whether or not she can be included in your application...possibly if she is your only other family member!
However, If she were to apply seperately at her then age, 57, she would automatically be turned down as a skilled migrant because of this. She could then apply under the family category if you agree to sponsor her and once you have been over there for a qualifying period, I think three years PR or 2 years as a citezen, but she must meet the family centre of gravity rules.
As a last resort she can enter the family quota category which is a bit of a yearly lottery to allow in family members who do not qualify under any other category!!
As Abdul quite rightly says study the NZIS website first!
Good Luck! Hope this gives you a strting point! |
