Hi folks
Boring I know as you've heard it a million times - but the forum's great. As many have said before, it's nice to read about other like minded souls - and all their trials and tribulations. I keep picturing the 'pool' as that scene from Toy Story where all the little green aliens are waiting to be chosen by the all-powerful-claw.............hopefully we'll be leaving the kid-next-door back here!!!
Anyway, I'm digressing as usual (did I hear someone mention cucumbers at the back there?)
To cut to the chase - I have 120 points and an occupation on the OSL. I've tried to glean info from the many posts (and do bear with me if I'm asking the same old questions), and I've been to NZ house twice and am none the wiser really. What benefits does being on the OSL bring? Is it just that employers have less red tape to go through if they choose to employ you and that if I get a job offer I won't need medical or police checks (do NZ know what they might be letting in....) to get a work permit - and that it's quicker too?
Hubby, me and the baby will be visiting NZ in February for 4 weeks to suss out the opportunities. I spoke with a recruitment consult at NZ Expo and they said to send a CV and come and see them when I get there (I know, I know).
Does a job on the OSL mean you are a more attractive (figuratively, not literally) prospect? (My profession is accountancy.)
I'm trying not to get too into the whole thing until we've visited in Feb 05 - just in case seeing is not believing, but it's a long time to wait and reading everybody's experiences encourages you to get involved.
Anyway, hope I've not sent you all to sleep and thanks for any help you can give me. |

Hi Leontar and Welcome
Having a job on the OSL means that your potential employer does not have to do any Labour surveys to prove that a New Zealander cannot be employed for your post. (does that make sense??!! ) If you are applying for a work visa, (after you have your job offer of course) you dont have to have police checks and medicals if it is under 1year. However, my hubbys job was on the OSL (welder) and cause of that NZIS told him that once he has his medical and police check they will give him a three year visa. Allthough, hopefully, we will have applied for PR long before then.
Hope this helps |
