Hi All,

Just joined the ENZ Community - looks just the place to ask for advice!

I've just had my highest qualification pre-assessed and it came back as a Level 4. I think this would give me 50 points, but oh no - the trade itself is not on the recognised trade quals list!

I have a City & Guilds senior award called an LCGI (roughly equiv to NVQ4) in Technical Authorship. I'm a Technical Writer in the IT industry with 10yrs relevant experience. The list of recognised trade quals has lots of acceptable C&G trades but not mine!

Has anyone else had this problem and does this actually mean that the qualification is worth nothing towards my application?

Fingers crossed for a positive response or else I'll have to consider a career change...!!

Hi Ellie

There are absolutely loads of qualifications that are not on the Recognised Qualifications list. they basically list, Masters Degrees, Honours Degrees, City & Guilds (some types) and some other vocational qualifications(some types).

All this means is that if your qualification is not on the Recognised Qualifications List, you need to go through the NZQA to have your qualifications assessed, which you have done.

The NZQA has recognised your trade as level 4 and therefore qualifying for 50 points.

NVQ's are not listed on the Recognised Qualifications List but if you have NVQ 4 or 3 in some cases you are assessed as Level 4 and therefore qualify for 50 points.

Good luck with your application

Thanks Sadie! I have only had a cheapo pre-assessment done, therefore it's not set in stone. I guess I was getting hung up on the wording "acceptable trades". It leads you to believe that any not on the list are not acceptable.

That's tech writers for you - picky picky when it comes to the written word!

So long as your Certificates match up to your pre-assessment (which i'm sure they do!) you should be fine.

Take care

Sadie
