Hi folks...

My partner and I are planning to come to New Zealand in mid Jan, to see if we can live and work there. We've done a fair bit of research but I'm sure we've missed loads of stuff out. Can anyone give me a bit of advice on where to start when we actually get there......Scary stuff this!! Hmmm

We leave for NZ on the 6th Smile

The one thing we would advise is to double the time you think you need for packing. You can worry about what to do on arrival when you arrive. Get packed NOW!

Best of luck - via con dios

Nice One Thanks all of you....

Wendy, we're going to tour the Islands for the first month to decide which part we like best and then look for work in that area..lets keep in touch and meet for a beer!! Clink

Rob, thank you, packing has commenced... Eek

Karl and Rodders.
Well we plan to do a bit of touring, but thereafter, both of us are really keen to get work....I'm a Sales and Marketeer by trade and ideally would like something in the conference/leisure industry corporate sales arena. My partner is an advisor and coach to small businesses and entreprenueurs. He also has experience of working in Policy development and acedemia.

The aim is to decide where we like best, then work on the job front.

All view/advice and comments welcome.

Hi Taslim,

Sounds like a great plan it's a wonderful country I guarantee you will be spoilt for choice!!!!

Re jobs:- your partner; I recommend he approaches the NZ Institute of Management and The NZ Business School in addition to agencies when the time is right!

What kind of lifestyle are you planning?????

I know, I'm really excited about the whole thing....can't wait. Only 11 days till we leave!!! Nutcase

Lifestyle, well we both like the countryside. But deep down I'm a city girl..Bars restaurants, theatre etc...with weekends by the beach or in remote parts of beautiful countryside would suit us both fine.

He's very outdoors and loves to go walking and cycling...

Taslim.

You can have the best of both worlds...chances are because of your chosen occupations you'll end up near or in one of the main cities Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch etc... Even so the countryside is always on your doorstep! You can take the girl out of the city but you can't take the city out of the girl eh!

Sounds good to me. From what I've been reading about NZ's climate, it sounds like the North Shore will be the best place for regular visits to the beach. True?

True enough but bon't rule out the east or west Auckland suburbs both of which have some lovely beaches and native bush reserves!
