For the past six months I have researched New Zealand, it jobs, areas to live etc.

I now believe my brain is totally overloaded.

I dont possess qualifications, well I do have a third of a nursing degree but got pregnant left couldnt afford to go back etc etc. But my better half is an apprentice trained engineer (city & Guilds) and very experienced. But because of his age he only scores 90 points on the EOL, so therefore needs a job offer to bump it up to 140-150. But I have been applying for jobs for him for weeks and weeks with no response.

So what I thought would be sell my house, put my stuff in storage, and just go, from the sale of house, cars etc and after paying off everything we would have about £40-50,000, so we wouldnt starve when we got there and then to look for work when we are there.

But just wanted peoples opinions, do you think I would be mad to do it, bearing in mind I would have 2 kids in tow. Also does anyone know or have any experience of whether it would be fairly easy to get an engineering job out there.

Thanks in advance

Melanie

Its alot to weigh up. I guess you would have to get work and student visas first. Employers may be reluctant to take your partner on without residency as they may look at it as they may have to refill the position if you dont get PR or if your visa runs out before you do?
I would recommend an NZQA assessment first though.
Its a gamble but if I were in your position I would have done it.

What do others think?

I thought that the NZQA website says that they do not assess incomplete qualifications...

My husband and I are seeing this as our only and best option also!! We have 4 children. It is so scary! My husband is just not sure he can justify leaving a good job and selling our house for such uncertainty. He is not quite the dreamer I am! He wants things to be more of a guarantee. Which nothing in life is! So I want to hear what others have to say also.

The NZQA assessment for the city & guilds assuming that is complete. A city & guilds apprenticeship is what got us here.

Yes it is a bit scary but you only live once.

Regarding our qualifications I think I must have explained it wrongly, its me that only has a bit of a degree.

My partner is the one who's qualifications we will use he has a full apprenticeship in engineering (city & guilds) and other Btec qualifications in Engineering.

Sorry if I confused anyone.

Just out of interest Andy are you an engineer if so how did you find a job??

No I am in admin, it is my husband who has the city & guilds. He is a panel beater. We got the job offer by cold calling bodyshops in Auckland.
He mentioned that we were arriving in Auckland in 6 months and would it be ok to email them his CV. He followed up the calls about 3 weeks after.
He got 3 job offers in the end.
