| How much annual holiday is it usual to get in a job in New Zealand? I'm in IT. Just wondered if it is similar to the UK. |

yes - I'd be interested to find this out too cos I've heard rumors that NZ workers only get 3 weeks holiday a year. If this is true, our holidays are going2 be taken up with relatives coming over here for a few weeks at a time and none left for our own hols!
Can someone clear this up for me too please guys?
Thanks!
Jodie

Am under impression that it is only 3 weeks but have heard in some cases could be 4, obviously it would depend on employer i should imagine.

Yes you are right about it being three weeks holiday at the moment, but I believe this is being increased to four weeks in the near future.(not sure exactly when)
You also get eleven days public holidays. |

Yes, indeed, the standard is three weeks' holiday a year. However, it seems to be quite common to negotiate an extra week's leave or so before accepting a new job.
Cheers,

| It is only 3 weeks alas but in 2007 the laws chage and 4 weeks will be ther norm. Get as much as you can negotiate...the Kiwis have some strange emplyment laws compared with the UK! Look B4 U Leap! |

I was hoping you were going to come back and say this was just a vicsious rumor, but no! It's true!! Oh well, I'm sure I can make do with 3 weeks seeing as we'll be living in paradise! (There are some sacrifices we'll have to make!)
But with regards to negotiating more leave when you get a job offer, is this something that I really could do and not offend/annoy the employer? 4 weeks would do me just fine.... (I'm not asking too much, am I?....)

| Four weeks annual leave is the standard in Australia, if that's of any interest. |

Hi Jodie,
It depends how much you are in demand I suppose but don't be afraid to discuss this openly with your prospective employer!
Good Luck
