Is there a general feel for the points score you should have before you submit an EOI? I know you need 100, but does anyone have an ideal points total that they want to submit at?

Without an offer for my hubby we are looking at 115, I am guessing this will not be enough. With an offer for him will would be pushing 180, but a job offer doesnt seem likely..... any thoughts?

Hi Traci,

Today I went to NZ House London and posed a number of questions.
One of them was regarding the points on the EOI.

The guy there reckons you would have to fall into the upper ranks of between 150 - 200 to stand a chance of being pulled from the pool.

Note that this is official of course, who knows.

They do intend to display the figures selected and points marks after each pool. Which is expected to be around every two weeks. Hmmm

Hi Traci,

I think we are all holding our breath on this one!

I predict that in the first couple of months successful applications will need to scrore 150 and over. This will purge the pool of those people lucky enough to have job offers in place and who have been unwittingly caught up in the fiasco's facing would be migrants this year as NZ immigration policy changes, backlogs and a one month effective shutdown on migration take there toll.

After this initial phase I think things will settle down to a more achievable level for all concerned.

You can rank the scores broadly speaking by looking at how the points are awarded.

160-200 points have jobs, quals, experience, age and various bonus points

120-160 points may have have jobs + quals, experience, age

100-120 points do not have jobs, but do have points for quals, exp and age.

...reckon it could be a bit lower (again only speculating!).

A good score without a job offer would be around 130+ so I think they may have a reasonable chance. There's also speculation that they'll struggle to meet targets so we could find it coming in lower still?

Agree 150+ is probably safe...but could be worth a punt at 115? I know a few others who are, nothing to lose (well, a few quid but not much in the scheme of things..). Won't get PR straight off but still better than nothing, and having a work permit in place will no doubt ease the job hunt.

I think I'd have a go.. got to be in it an' all that.. Yes

Thanks for passing that on Carl. Clapping

Before reading your message I'd have been inclined to agree with Karl and Grey that, in order to get more than a trickle of migrants, a lower pass-mark will be required.

As a guide, for the year 2002/2003, 60% of successful General Skills applicants had gained points for a relevant job offer in New Zealand.

Since there will be less applications from India and China under the new rules, I would imagine that over 50% of applications under the new rules should be successful without a job offer - time will tell.

I'm expecting/hoping that not many more than 100 points will be needed to qualify after the applications backlog has been processed. fingers crossed

Hi All,

My predictions were only intended to refer to the current backlog situation....sorry for the confusion. Once the backlog is over...say 2-3 months I think the sucessfull passmark will undoubtedly be lower! A job thoough is still key to being pretty much certain!
