Hi there,
I see loads of folks from the UK heading over, and I think I've only seen a guy from Mojave posting about moving from California. Just wondering if there are any other local folks looking to get out before Ah-nold's regime finishes destoying the California we knew and loved. Just an opinion, and looking for possible neighbors. I live in Oceanside, in San Diego county.
Thanks! |

Hi SoCalGal
I'm a native Californian transplanted to Phoenix a few years ago. My wife and I are planning our move around May/June provided the NZIS gets busy with our EOI.
I miss CA. a lot, but don't miss how crowded and crazy it's gotten. Now that the Terminator is in charge, I'm afraid that's what he'll do to the Golden State! That's why NZ is soooo appealing...reminds me of CA. about 30 years ago, with even fewer people!
Best of luck and keep us posted on your progress! |

Hi again, Rich!
Yes, gotta flee before the Terminator terminates everything we love here!
Very scary indeed. Many people have made that reference to NZ being like CA years ago, that's the dream we're chasing too, a beautiful, friendly laid-back place, just have to travel 12 hours to get there! Sometime back there was a very informative post about electronic equipment from someone who had tons and wrote a very nice post about conversions, etc. Was that you? I can't find it again and wanted to print it out. We have a recording studio in our home, and since most of the stuff is at least 5 years old - and the technology changes so quickly - it just won't be worth it to sell and buy new down in NZ. Do you have any info along these lines? You're a great resource for everything else I've needed! |

Hi SoCal Gal
Rich's highly informative answers to my enquiry about taking a dryer etc to NZ are in the thread at
http://emigratenz.org/community/viewtopic.php?t=145
I'm greatly enjoying my stay in Northern CA, despite the Governator. It was entertaining to be here during the elections. I hope he doesn't meete up to everyone's expectaions.
With only an month to go before I go home, I can look forward to the idiotic political correctness and the culture of apology which pervades our present government, as they attempt to bankrupt the future to make amends for the past. I guess it's the same wherever you go.........
Are you serious about moving to NZ? When, wherer and how far along the process are you?
Good luck with your move

Hi there!
We are 'big picture' people, and in the past x months since the start of the oil invasion overseas, and thinking about upcoming elections, have decided that the time has come to start living dreams instead of just talking them and getting so upset/sad whenever we watch the news...I started doing research on line about making the move to NZ, everyone seems to know someone who knows someone who moved there and loved it....but then seeing all the things about points, etc., made us decide to hurry up and jump in the pool. I am actually 45 today (nervy Californian calls herself a 'gal' ) and wanted to get our application in before we lost more points for age, so I submitted last Friday night. I am in publishing, and my husband has worked in nursing (doesn't want to do that any more, he's 47) we don't have any kids, only pets (5). We could sell our house pretty quickly, of that I have no doubts, considering the CA market as you are no doubt well aware of. We're just waiting for the word to 'jump in' and we're off to start the 2nd half! |

Hey SoCalGal!
Happy birthday!! You're still a "gal", not to worry.
Keep us posted, maybe we'll be neighbors and we can have you over for bar-b-que and talk about S.D. (I used to live by the Mission/Stadium).
And many, many more!! |

Thanks, Rich! We should definitely have that bar-b-que, and talk about how we made it out just in time! We live up in the North County, Oceanside, and hearing/feeling the practice bombing from Camp Pendleton every day only hastens our desire to flee. |
