Hi,
Is there anyone who contributes to this site from Tauranga. My family and I are due to be there around the end of June (Me, hubby and 2 primary school age kids). We'd appreciate any advice / pointers.
thanks. |

We, also, are moving to Tauranga in August. Have visited there on a couple of occasions and it's a great place. I am returning to NZ after 23 years, but don't know anyone there. Not sure how much you know about it, but it is very go ahead and superb climate. Quite happy to talk to you if you want.

Hi Susan,
I'm glad someone else thinks it could be a nice place to live, alot of people who contribute to this site seem to be in other major cities. Although I've been to NZ three times over the last ten years, I've visited Tauranga only once for an afternoon!.
We have family and friends in various places in NZ, and on our last trip, when we asked them where they would like to live, if they could move anywhere in NZ, they all said Tauranga, among other obvious choices like The Bay of Plenty etc. But to work and live Tauranga scored very well.
I'm trying to find out as much info as I can, on schools, nice areas to live etc! During our whistle stop tour of Tauranga, we called in to an Estate Agent and asked her "which were the 'nice' areas" and "Is it the same as in the UK, are they determined by the 'good' schools" She looked at us with a very puzzled expression! and replied "they are all nice" and there aren't any "bad" schools!
Having numerous dealings with Estate Agents (British ones) I know from experience that they don't always tell the truth, but I must say from driving around, it did all look really nice. I've heard that Bethlehem is a popular location.
I'll let you know if I find anything out that maybe useful. |

| We visited Tauranga briefly in March 04 and found it to be a bit too busy for our liking. O.K on the outskirts. As it is probably the fastest growing city/town in nz property prices tend to be on the high side. Still better than U.K though |

Hi we were in Tauranga during March also. I guess to NZ standards, it is 'busy' and the house prices are 'expensive'. But you do have to compare it to where you live in the UK. We live in a large town sandwiched very closely between a large city and a major city. The traffic is horrendous most of the time.
We picked Tauranga, not only because it seems to be a lovely, clean town on the coast, but because it's large enough for work opportunities and within easy reach of the lakes and ski fields etc. Another factor was the relatively low crime rate Tauranga has (we have a friend who's a NZ cop in the Bay of Plenty). |
