Greetings, friends! I am a U.S. citizen who is seriously considering exploring the possibility of emigrating to New Zealand at some point in the next few years.
So, here's my question, and I do apologize in advance if this sounds rather long-winded or convoluted . . . how are American postgraduate degrees looked upon in New Zealand? By training, I am a community college instructor in the discipline communication studies. I hold a master's degree from a public university in the States. At some point in the near future, I will be returning to graduate school to work on a doctorate degree. If my ultimate goal is to teach in New Zealand, would it make a difference if my doctroate was from a university in NZ or the States? Is it even feasible for a qualified foriegner to be considered for an open a teaching position at a New Zealand university?
Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions for resources would be appreciated. |

NZ institutions will recognize your US grad degree, provided the university was properly accredited (not a problem with public universities, really, but some private ones are self-accredited). See the List of Recognised Qualifications (this is a PDF document) for details.
As for the feasibility, university lecturer is on the Priority Occupations List, so NZ universities are definitely looking for imported help... |
