Do we need a permit to job hunt??
My Husband will be arriving in NZ at the end of this month. He has sent his CV to many companies who are eager to meet him.
We were told by an immigration consultant that if questioned about his intentions on arrival in NZ, to say he is there as a visitor, and not to mention that he will be looking for employment.
Will NZ officials think it a bit fishy that a visitor applies for a work permit a few weeks or so after arriving?
I've read some old posts on this site and there's a suggestion that this is the case and that his work permit may be refused.
Is there a permit that would allow him to job hunt in NZ??
P.S If it helps he works in I.T on the OSL
Thanks all |

Hi Rebecca,
I think the old threads you've seen really sum up the collective 'wisdom' of the people on the board. According to the NZIS official I spoke to recently, if your husband applies for a work permit a few weeks after arriving on 'holiday' here, there should be absolutely no problems whatsoever. |

Thanks for the reply. We've spent quite some time planning this move and it's amazing what jumps out at the last moment!! I am a worrier though and I'm sure there be more last minute nightmares before the week is out.
I'd like to say though that this site has been brilliant! My Bro-in-law (in Auckland) is happy that we're no longer bombarding him with endless questions. |
