Hi!
We have just had our applications for work/visitor and student visas returned by the NZ Immigration Service because we made the mistake of including our original application for residence (now time barred) for additional information. The application for the visas had a covering letter which stated very clearly that we were applying for work etc. visas and that the residence papers were just for information BUT they returned the whole lot anyway!!! This is our third attempt at lodging papers with this office and every time we have been told that the application is either one document short, timebarred by 2 weeks and now simple incompetence in their failure to read a covering letter.
We have lost another 3 weeks due to their mistake which is now becoming very worrying as we have sold our house and have to move out at the end of January (a timescale which our case worker said would be ok). The NZ office has said that we have to send down our application again and this time they will try to get someone who can actually read to open the envelope and check the application for visas. Sorry....slight exaggeration... they can all read but didn't actually bother to exercise that skill on this particular application!
Is anyone else having trouble just getting the papers into the office? Will keep you posted.

Help ma boab what are these jokers up to?
From the viewpoint of someone thinking about applying this is quite discouraging. Rather than helping skilled people into the country they seem to be nitpicking and making it hard for you.
I'm sure you'll get there in the end Wendy so keep your pecker up and we're all waiting for you to get some good news. |

Jings crivens!
Thanks for that.....I have written a very snotty, on my high horse...eh used to be a lawyer, type letter. Hopefully we'll get some action. The best laugh is that their letter actually recommends that we apply for work etc visas in the meantime....and that is what was enclosed....and they stamped them as being received!!!
I had to read the letter 4 times before I could believe how daft it is. On the phone they politely explained that what we had sent was an application for residence, not visas, and I just as politely explained that the forms that had just returned by special delivery to us, do indeed appear to be VISA application forms..... and not out dated residence applications !!!!!!!
It's almost funny

Wolfie has been reading but not posting for a while Sister Wendy and I am fraternally appalled by the lack of consideration shown you by these apparatchiks. Come the glorious day...........

Thanks for that Wolfie.....I look forward to the glorious day!
In the meantime, maybe the NZ Immigration Office could keep a few of the SKILLED migrants to work in their own office.....or have all the skilled migrants already left the UK? ( or at least trying to leave).

It was interesting to see the comment about the number of skilled migrants leaving the country. I have spoken to many (mainly doctors and nurses) after making the decision to up-sticks and almost all would go if they felt their family circumstances would allow it.
Our estate agent told us he had 10 othe emigrant families selling through him locally (but given the Bolton weather this should not come as a big surprise!)
This diaspora brings to mind the front page of the Sun newspaper the day before John Major famously scraped in at a general election - 'If Labour get in will the last person to leave the country please switch out the lights...' |
