Hi Craig,

According to the NZIS website there are three identified future growth areas.

Identified future growth area
An industry area that offers New Zealand considerable opportunity to increase its prosperity. Currently we recognise three broad areas:

Biotechnology
Information Communications Technology
Creative industries – Advertising, Software and Computing Services, Publishing, TV and Radio, Film and Video, Architecture, Design, Designer Fashion, Music and Performing Arts, Visual Arts.

Your current or proposed employer will need to confirm they are in one of these areas.

Hi JCM, thanks for that, but I had got that from the web. I am currently completing the EOI and have no job offer as yet, though I want to stay in Telecomms. I cannot find any concrete information as to whether this is included in the Information Communications Technology grouping.

I did try to phone the NZ offices to find out but it just kept ringing out, I think I will try again tonight.

Hi Craig, sorry I couldn't help. I'd assumed (but assumptions count for nothing in this game!) that telecoms would be included within ICT for the purposes of 'future growth'. If you do make the call to the NZIS, please let us know how you get on.

It also depends a wee bit on what part of telecomms you are in - cable laying would be out, but harware/technical work would be OK. Without a job offer, but being in ICT, you are more likely to not be invited to apply for Work to Residence rather you will probably get given residence up front as NZIS will be trying hard to get you on NZ's behalf, ICT and all that, but it's early days yet in terms of how it'll all shake out, and it depends on your area of expertise.

Hello, Craig, Can you let me know how you get on with the telecoms thing as I work for BT.

Jamie, I work for BT 'The Phone Book' as a sales manager for the advertising sales would this come under advertising part of the identifying future growth. Also got lots of prev exp with Yellow pages

Also go quite a bit of telecoms account management (7 years in Bt)experience so, Craig if you have an answer from NZ house let us know.

We are only going to be applying in about a year when the points criteria has settle a little and husband has passed his HV authorisation.
Any info would be grateful.

Ta Smile

Hmm, not sure if that's Creative (in which case OK for SMC). It's probabbly not ICT (but I'm not an agent or advice pro in this field), so perhaps you should enquire of others first.

Clapping Nice One

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for that. I currently work for Vodafone in a technical job, network mangement. It would be nice to think that I would be able to come straight in on a residence visa, but we'll have to wait and see. I'll keep you all posted on any outcome of our application.
