Auckland airport is the only place we have ever been to where you get GIVEN coffee.
Our first encounter with a native Nzer after the officials at immi. etc. was a lovely little white haired guy whose job it seemed was to welcome us to his country with a free cafe`.
Then, on departing the country, we decided to wait it out in the cafe`/bar thingy upstairs, and you just help yourself to tea/coffee for as long as you want.
The chances of this happening at Heathrow are slimmer than twiggy on atkins.

Hi Captain (real name?),
Wasn't implying that the bus was hard, merely that everything was so easy that the bus was the most challenging part, if that makes sense!!! (I'm from Dorset so forgive my logic!). Auckland was a great start to NZ for us, so much more "civilized" than all the US and UK airports that I've been through. I think the immigration guy even smiled!!

Hi Mark,
No confusion intended - after being locked in a plane for eternity I just enjoy the walk and the fresh NZ air.
You are spot on with the friendly attitudes though, there's nothing like a Kiwi smile after haunting LAX for 8 hours. I believe that NZ manages to control it's borders with more security than the US, but manages it with a smile and doesn't make you feel like a criminal/terrorist just for being knackered after an 8 eight flight in cattle class.
Even the sniffer dogs are friendly! |

Hmmm what to do, what to do?
I guess we should just bite the bullet and get a flight straight down to Chch and deal with being knackered once we are at the apt - at least we will have finished the journey and can sleeeep |

Helen,
We got to Auckland at 5:15, left for Christchurch at 7 and I had an interview with a recruitment consultant at 2!!! In spite of everything I thought would happen I actually found it easier to get in time zone in NZ than I do when I go to the states. Wierd huh?!?
The flight is short enough to not even think about, unless you really want to stay in Auckland to see some sights I would book a flight for as soon after you get there as you can.
