Are the sizes of beds the same in NZ as in the UK?? Wondering whether to bring our king size; will we be able to buy the right size bed linen over there? fingers crossed

Since we're on the subject of beds...

I'm planning to bring over the waterbed I've had and slept in since I was 19 years old, and no, let's not discuss how this makes this particular bed an antique now!! Does anyone know if they are in use in NZ? Should I plan to bring over a couple of spare matresses, or are they reasonably available there? We're bringing the existing heater and plan to put it on a converter/transformer or whatever it is we need, but if possible, we'd prefer to replace it with a NZ model. With all the complaints about the cold, I would think waterbeds would be very popular -- but maybe not!

Any input? Thanks as always, Rae

I have seen a few - stayed in a motel in Alexandra which had a waterbed as their standard beds!

Funny you should ask... we noticed a woman snapping photographs of our house a couple of days ago when we were going off somewhere.. she knew she was caught and called out she was taking pictures for her son and his family who live out of the area. Then, this morning, while I was away getting something done to my hair, Stephen got a call from her for a viewing. She came through and just loves the place. Apparently, her son has already lost out twice to properties in our area by not being quick to make his offer or by offering too low.. I may be wrong, but I have a good feeling about this one -- it may be sold!

Any news on yours?? comfort

Dianne

If I was you I would stock up on bedding in the sales here. You will be able to get the right size, ours fitted OK. Talking to my friend in Auckland at the weekend who said she doesn't think the quality and value is as good. I have also bought new quilts because I read on here that even poor quality ones are expensive by comparison.

I am also thinking that if we have space in the container why not fill it.

Rae

How is the house sale going ? we have buyers for ours but live in dread of them pulling out as things have really slowed down over here.

Rae - no - we have lost the buyers as they wouldn't increase their offer. We have now reduced our price for a 2nd time and will have to just sit it out until the market picks up again. Hope you are doing better fingers crossed

Hi all,

Sorry to hijack the thread a little bit but interested to hear people's current experiences on selling their houses. We have a buyer and they are having their home buyer's survey done as I type. Don't know why but I am paranoid they will drop out, I have no reason to suspect they will, just fear that my plans get hit for six by factors out of my control and people I don't know!

The property market is definitely cooling here in the UK (unlike the weather at the moment!) and interest rates will go up again today. All this talk about a 30% drop in values needed to bring equilibrium to the market doesn't help either.

Here's hoping we get to exchange contracts middle of next week without any wobbles fingers crossed

We have a buyer and also paranoid they will drop out, we accepted below the asking price as everything has come to a grinding halt around here. If they pull out gave no idea how long it will take to shift. I am trying not to sound desperate in fact keep saying we will work around them but they know we are going abroad. Want those contracts exchanged ASAP.

Fingers crossed for all in the same situation, house buying and sellling is bad enough without adding in new jobs and moving to the other side of the world.

Hard to say what the market is doing here in the US.. our area is mostly immune to what is happening in the rest of the country.. demand for housing is generally high.

However, our house is unusual and will not suit everyone, so we are prepared to wait a couple of months before feeling we need to drop our price or do anything else drastic. We're also selling it ourselves, not using an agent, so don't have access to multiple listing service and other networks that make house-selling easier. Oh, and we're lazy -- all we've done is stick a sign out front, print out some flyers and put an ad in the local paper. Steve did trouble himself to put together a website: http://webpages.charter.net/raebear_1/los_osos.htm (in case you're dying to see!).

Even so, we've had lots of viewings and several people who have expressed interest. We are not prepared to enter into a contingency where someone has to sell their house before buying ours and we've had 2 sets of prospective buyers who want to do that... we're just waiting for that cash-laden buyer who has to have the house! I don't know.. maybe the orange walls put people off a little... but it's only been 2 weeks.

It sounds like buyers in the UK kind of use pulling out as a strong-arm tactic to get a better price midway through the exchange process. How awful!! I can't imagine how stressful selling a home there must be with that looming over your head. I hope you all get your price and dream buyers -- and soon!!

I should exchange contracts next week fingers crossed The estate agent called today to say that the purchasers had paid their deposit. Solicitors just waiting for cheque to clear next week and we can exchange.

I've been terrified that they would drop out at any time, what with interest rates going up and then having to drop the price by £1,000 because of the boiler flue being too close to the kitchen window. Rolling Eyes Even more terrifying as Dave has now committed to the house in NZ. Nutcase

fingers crossed fingers crossed fingers crossed fingers crossed fingers crossed fingers crossed
