Hi All,
It's my intention to live and work in NZ to be with my Kiwi partner in Tauranga. As I've explained in previous threads, I'm an Environmental Consultant with one years experience. I'm planning to 'holiday' in NZ this coming June/July with every intention of setting up interviews (if I can) during this time out there.
My question is, what's the best way to approach all this?.....would it be advisable to go to an immigration consultant and get some help and advice before embarking on this mission??......will employment agencies be prepared to help me, given that I won't have a work permit 'til I get the job offer?......and also, what kind of time am I looking at between getting a job offer, getting the permit and actually working??
Sorry for all the questions yet again, but it would be really good to hear any feedback people may have , or if anyone's gone through the same??
Many thanks
Emma :-) |

Is there any reason that you can't go under the partnership policy? Just making sure as I don't think you mentioned it before..

Hi Grey,
Is that the under the de facto category?? If it is, then I'm not so sure we'd qualify....having a long distance relationship for 5 years doesn't help in the proof of living category!! If there's other options then I'd love to know!! |

Yes, they changed the name of it & a few details.. It may be possible still. I take it you've met??
One of the rules is for you to have been living together for at least 12mths, but I believe it is still possible to apply even if you don't meet this requirement, with the final residence decision being deferred for another yr. In the meantime you get an open work permit to allow you to build up the 12mths together..
Far better than worrying about points & jobs! I'll look into it a bit more & send a PM.. |

Yes, we've met!! He's currently living with me for 6 months and is due back to Kiwi land next month. As a result of long university holidays and 2 year outs, we've probably lived together for about 24 months in total, but always with long gaps apart in between! We did look into this route beofre but decided we couldn't prove our relationship adequately enough as we had no joint bills, bank accounts etc. Just out word!
But if you could shed any more light, I'd be really interested! |

Are you sure you couldn't find anything else? How about stuff addressed individually but to the same address? That can be used.. perhaps alongside other things such as letters, photos etc to prove you are a couple..
I do think you have a chance this way, have another look at it as things have changes a little. It does keep going on about the 12mth living together rule, but I've double checked the rule about deferring a decision & it certainly looks possible.
Gaps inbetween don't necessarily cause a problem, as long as you have good enough reason, which you seem to..
Anyway, surely worth a go, would make life a bit easier!
I've sent a PM also.. |
