Me and my wife are looking to emigrate to New Zealand next year. I am in IT and she is in Insurance. We have booked flights and have a return ticket which we will use if we don't like the place (unlikely). We are planning to sell everything in the UK and travel very light. I know that we can stay for 6 months on our UK passport and possibly extend it to 12 months. My question is, how easy is it to get a work permit if we decide to stay and look for work and is this the easiest way to gain permanent residency in the long term. It seems under the new system that having a job lined up before applying is like gold dust..Any advice would be appreciated. I am 37 and my wife is 29 |

hi unwind,
The IT skills covered by the OSL list is below. If you get a job offer in one of the following areas, it will be very easy to get a work permit. Once you have a work permit, permanent residence should be straightforward. The Occupational Shortages List is subject to review in December 2003 so we will need to see what the new list brings.
IT Skills in shortage applicable to the OSL. Applicants for visas or permits under the OSL are required to have a minimum of three years full-time work experience in at least one of the skills identified on the shortage list below AND have completed a recognised programme of formal training in that area.
