Anybody know whether you are allowed to take bikes into NZ? Heard or read somewhere that you can`t. Anybody know the answer.
Thanks in advance for answers

I believe you can but they have to be steam cleaned by your packaging company first

The bikes can be taken as long as they are thoroughly cleaned so that no foreign insects / items are introduced from abroad.... you may need an official in the UK to supervise this prior to shipping... after the devastation of foot and mouth here in the UK I can fully understand the strictness of this!
Plus I don't want any escapees from Oz getting in... their bugs are NASTY!!
(Do I get extra points on my EOI for Oz bashing?!) |

We bought our two mountain bikes in with no problem. First wash thoroughly using a jet wash and detergent to get rid of all the obvious stuff, rinse well and then wash with dilute Jeyes fluid leave for one hour rinse dry and wrap the tyres with cling film. For flat packing undoe and rotate handle bar 90 degrees and invert the peddles so they don't stick out. I was quizzed by MAF over here on this and other items in our consignment and they cleared it all without inspection! As long as you are take reasonable measures and can demonstrate it convincingly it goes a long way to put their minds at rest! |

| We also brought are bikes, as mentioned before they where steam cleaned and handle bars, seats and pedals all adjusted to take up minimal space in the container. When the container arrived here I had a questionaire from MAF, to ask what items where on the container ie. garden equiptment, bikes etc that could pose a risk. They wanted to know how they where cleaned and inspected by your moving company before packing. All items went through fine, I was told it could take a week or two by MAF to clear the container but mine only took 2 days. We never brought any garden equiptment because this is what might get your container completely emptied to be checked by MAF, and thats the last thing you want when you haven't seen your stuff for 8 - 10 weeks. |

Binned pedals etc.. sounds expensive.
Just a jolly good clean is all thats required.
USe jeyes fluid..
Cleans well, and leaves its own particular odour...
IT smells clean.!!
In fact we are making sure that things cleaned with jeyes smell of jeyes... it will help our inspection:) |
