hi there,
has anybody had a btec national certificate evaluated by the nzqa? (mine is in printing)
this is a two year full time qualification, and as i remember (i took mine in 1984) it was regarded as sitting between a city & guilds and an hnc.
I've checked the nzis web info. and i know it mentions btec quals. but i havn't seen anything relating to print. Since taking mine i have been in the trade so i'm ok for work experience, just wondring if i need to bother with getting it approved for my eoi.
any info. appreciated.
cheers
alistair
ps fingers crossed for everone on 100-110 this week!!!

Hi Alistair

Thats correct. They recognise BTEC HND or Certificates in the foll, but not in printing.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The following Higher National Certificates and/or Higher National Diplomas awarded by BTEC are
assessed as occupying Level 5 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.
• Agriculture
• Business
• Computing
• Design (Higher National Diploma only)
• Engineering
• Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management (Higher National Diploma only)
• Public Administration
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

They only recognise City & Guilds quals in printing after completion of the apprenticeship.

I would suggest that you get the qualification assessed by the NZQA

best of luck

Abdul

thanx abdul,
thought that might be the case.
i checked the btec web site and see it is classed as - "a level 3 qualification
equal to a city and guilds level 2"
does any one have recent experience of dealing with nzqa (eg. how long it will take etc.)?
many thanks

Hi Al,

I just had a pre-assessment done on a C&G qualification. They had to email me for further info once, but the whole thing took 4 days from start to finish (they quote up to 10 days).

Pretty good service, I reckon!

hi ellie,
yeah thats good service i suppose, i had thoughts of months waiting so thats good news. But just to clarify you say pre assesment - what does that mean- is it something you have to do before you get anything fully assessed, and did they give you a recognition code or number or something???
cheers

Hello Ali,

Pre Assessment results are soley for immigration purposes. That is, it's a facility for people to have their quals assessed purely for the purpose of scoring points on an EOI. If, once you are in NZ, you need to go into further education in your field, then the NZQA might have to do a further assessment, I think called a Full Assessment. Some people who need to register with a professional body in their trades may also need to do it.

If you think this will apply to you then I'd get a full assessment done, just to save you time and more money later on. If not, the pre-assessment will get you your points. You do get a unique code for your assessment which must be entered in your EOI.

Hope this helps mate, C
