i was looking at the memberlist and it's amazing seeing how many people who register and never post. i can't figure that out. you can read everything without registering, so what's the point of registering but not posting?
so if you've registered and never posted, could you make a post below even if it's just to say "hi". or better still put me out of my misery and tell me why someone might register but not post.
p.s. i wonder if anyone will post an answer? once a lurker, always a lurker? |

Sometimes some people are don't know what to say, so they will read more than saying something.
I think it's ok for some people not to post as long as they keep it clean...because there are many forum with all members are participating but they talk trashly and harshly just to have fun or to make their profile with many posts...now that I think it's annoying and lurking...
this is just my personal opinion though...didn't mean to disagree with you Rodders... |

Sometimes it's just a matter of having time. I often think "oh I need to post such and such" but then never get around to it! Laziness? Too busy? Other times I find info that I was curious about just by reading others' posts.
Oh and you get to vote in the polls by registering, even if you don't post! |

mmmm!
I'm not a lurker but i've only made a few posts. I suppose i'm more a lurker than a seasoned NZ know it all, so alot of reading i do but answering i can't. I also feel that i have somehow gate crashed someones elses group, silly i know I also don't really want to ask the same questions others have done so i try to look up waht i can from old posts.
In answer to your other question though, i did read for several weeks as a reader before joining so that i could submit my first (and only thread...so far!), since then i've been lurking with intent.

Rodders. I reckon a lot of people register, then find the answers to their questions simply by browsing. So they dont feel the need to post. I have visited quite a few supposedly specialist forums like this one and been very dissapointed by the low quality input and exchanges. This is without doubt the best NZ forum I have come accross.
However, I am registered with one other that is a pure gold mine. This is because it is frequented by almost 100% New zealanders, and they are proving to be much more helpfull in my quest than the agent I am paying (overpaying probably).
If you want details on it, PM me. |

Hello Community
yes you're absolutely right. It's about time I said hi. I'm Sue, I live in Belfast and I'm hoping to relocate with my family this september to Dunedin. I read the posts regularly and I'm reassured that most of the people within this community have the same worries and anxiety that I do. I've never left Ireland...or Belfast for that matter, but I've always imagined there has to be more to life than the Violence of Northern Ireland. I've found this community an inspiration....thank you.

Welcome Sue. You may or may not be aware that there is a large Irish contingent in some parts of NZ. Not really suprising I guess.
We visited a lovely little town on the western bay of plenty that has strong connections with your part of the world. Have a look.

| I can probably speak on behalf of a few people. I think it depends on what stage of the immigration process you are going through. Personally I dont plan on migrating until the end of next year, and so currently (apart from a few queries personal to me) this forum is more about "gaining knowledge" about the whole process, rather than sharing - as currently I dont have too much experience/knowledge to share. I believe people register initially because of the excitement you experience when you make the decision to emigrate. But when you actually read through past threads most of your questions are answered. As you get closer to the "date of departure" you want to share your thoughts/emotions with everyone else. I regularly read this forum (sometimes daily) but rarely post, this will change as I gain more knowledge on the subject! Or perhaps you kicked me into gear to discuss more regularly!?!?!? P.S Tim, why not post the address for all to see? I'm sure it wont detract from what a great forum this is - you can never have too much info! Otherwise I'll be forced to PM you for details. |

Ok - I post very occasionally. Alot to do with only being at the start of the immigration process, and possibly more to do with the fact that you lot who post regularly all seem to know each other really well. I'm not criticising (sp?) just saying that it makes it a bit intimidating for those of us who are a bit shy at the best of times!! A bit like joining a club where everyone else has been going for years!! lol
Anyway, I will try and make an effort to post more often. If only to have a chance to play with these fab emoticons!!
Debs
PS It could also be something to do with having a two and a half year old and a one year old. See an emoticon depiction of my life below:

Fair call Debs,
I started by checking out the current information on offer when I started the immigration process. When I was starting out, I just wanted to pick up information and learn off others.
I find this forum particularly useful because it cuts out all the crap...another forum I've looked at (very briefly) can help, but has so many useless comments floating around (perhaps same place as MJB!!) which makes it difficult to sort out the wheat from the chaff.
And as you progress through The System and get into it all, you do actually learn something and look to add to things. And of course, you'll have questions galore!!
Adding to the mix does make you feel G O O D...particularly if you have info which is useful to your own particular position, experience, job, family...which could be applied to others in the situation. Particularly if you're from NZ...you may well have an insight which could help many people on this forum.
But don't find it intimidating...I'm a relative newcomer (check out my rating!!) and I can say that this is NOT a private club by any means!!
Like most things in life...what you get out, depend on what you put in. (Spot the teacher)
Good luck...and the emoticons are cool. Does anyone know who actually designs them???
