Kiwis are really into their camping and walking. They call it tramping.
There are loads of outdoor equipment shops scattered around. Just a quick look on Google brings up a few nice-looking online stores.
One manufacter that I know is based in NZ is Macpac. I own one of their fantastic rucksacks. |

AliJax. Be aware that if you take your own tramping /camping gear out to Nz, you MAY have to prove it is clean at customs. I think the same rule goes for fishing tackle as well.
If the powers that be are not satisfied, they can charge you for fumigating your own stuff. |

Timbo your right, I have emailed the "powers that be" and they say that aslong as the camping equipment is free from organic material, basically soil, its ok and will pass inspection.
Of course any camping equipment, golf clubs, football - (sorry soccer) boots etc will need to be declared upon entry.
Our removals company will handle this at customs. |

We have shipped our tent etc, we gave it a hoover out and a good scrub before packing so hopefully won't have to much trouble this end.
Someone we have met had to put there tent up whilst being watched by MAF to check that it was clean and there's was passed no problem.
I just hope the guys at MAF have got a lot of time it takes us a while to get the tent up sometimes. |

check that out for a bit of tramping info in the Manawatu, and links to other clubs in NZ.
Check out the photos of the bush up Wanganui River head while you're there. Some awesome scenery. |
