| I am awaiting an offer of employment in NZ (fingers crossed) if I decide to take up the post myself and immediate family will be OK to travel with me. My mum lives with us here in the UK and has her own annex on the side of our house. Can she come over with us and what does she need to get, i.e. visas etc. can't seem to find out much info on the NZ immigration website. Can someone point me in the right direction??? |

Hi
I have seen the answer to that somewhere and i've just been checking through An NZ publication i subscribe to and i can't seem to find it now but if i remember rightly so long as your mum doesn't have other relatives here that could care for her it should be ok, again i can't be sure.
Lisa
P.S I'l keep looking and get back to you if i find out. |

Hi chadwagon!
I've read the same as Lisa somewhere and if I remember rightly if you are your parents last surviving child or only child then it's ok (I think?)
Was it in the June edt of "Destination New Zealand"?
I'll just go have a quick look............................ Hmmmmmmmm could it be on page 12? under the parent policy but you must be a NZ citizen or resident and the "centre of gravity" of your family must be in NZ.
Hope this helps a little? |

I remember something about if you are only child you can ship parents over - I remember this because I told my bro his days were numbered when my parents found out that I need to be an only child for them to come over!

| I think you will find that you must have PR status for 3 years before your mum can be sponsored by you! She can come out for 6-9 at atime though until then on a visitors visa! Check out the NZIS web site for more info! |

You are right, 6 months in any 12 and if they come for 9 months they have to stay out for the next 9 months.
After 3 years they can come out subject to the usual medicals.
I am an only child and this whole thing is causing me more worry than anything else. The worse part is that they are being so supportive about the whole thing, just encouragement to live our lives as we want. I just feel so guilty, the three years seems like an eternity at the moment.

Hi Chadwagon and Michelle.
Chadwagon, destination NZ is a monthly publication, 19.00 quid for 12 issues, i'd recommend it, it's quite informative. Tel 01323-726040.
Michelle, if your Parents are so supportive , i'd say go for it, 3 years will pass so quickly and you don't want to regret not going, perhaps you should have another chat with them, put your mind at rest. good luck.

Thanks Lisa, just having a panic day about leaving them. I think the last thing they would want me to do now is pull out because of them. Will chat to them about it all.

Hi Lisa,
If finances permit perhaps they could stay the other 6 months in Oz and hover between the two countries for essentially 2.5 years.
