Smile I have two kids as well, a girl aged 4 in reception class and a boy of 3, i think i've experienced some of the emotions you have, my mum who i'm really close with has told others in the family that she doesn't know how she'l cope when i leave, it's not that she's old, she still works, i guess she will miss visiting, chatting, etc and of course the kids, luckily they aren't her only grandkids otherwise it'd be even more of a dilema.

I just have to do this though, i pine for the scenery, the people, the way of life, etc, etc and i don't want any regrets especially this one, wow i'm finding this quite theraputic!, anyway it's about us and what makes us happy as a family and what's best for the kids. Mum and Co can come visit and we will be back here on holidays, i don't see the problem really we can be back in 24 hours if necessary, as for the NSPCC they should be more concerned about families that want to stay here these days eh? bravo Moorf, - yes, yes, yes, - if YOU are 'happy' ...it'll ripple through the world on every level .... and even if your family and friends aren't jumping up and down - your wellbeing will affect them on much deeper levels in a very positive way (now we're getting into quantum physics...).

we feel that if there is a calling for action - pursue it - doesn't seem beneficial to tell the river knocking at your door to wait ..... so we've put our kayaking gear on and are mentally preparing ourselves for the rapids - hopefully it won't be too fierce out there .....

remember to hand all this stuff over to the 'goddess' (or your deity of choice of cource) at the end of the day in faith - and get some rest - i, too, have had too many sleepless nights.

V. refreshing to find others that feel as strongly as we do about quality of life and following your dream.

We have always done things on "impulse" and we've had a great life ... long may it continue for us all.

Hi All Smile
What a fab posting! This has covered our two biggest worries in one posting! Firstly hubby doesn't really want to sell the house because we live in such a nice area and we could never buy again what we have now at todays prices,it's just the country as a whole we both hate! But we don't want to hang on for fear of int rate rises & a property crash! But to get us all to nz (6 in all!) and to live for the first few months we need the capital from our house! Thankfully we are not tied in to an ERP!

Then we think about the little ones! (5yrs,4yrs,2yrs,and 6mths!) moving them away from their friends, grandparents, aunties, uncles etc...and does tug at your heartstrings but then I know we WILL all have a better quality of life in NZ and like you say it is only 24hrs away & at least they are at an age where they can adapt easier! I know I would have thanked my parents in the long run if they had uprooted me to new zealand!

We've told all our parents but I'm convinced they don't think we will really do it! The fact the house is going up for sale in the next few weeks might just make them realise that we wasn't kidding! They all get to look forward to some fab hols though! Just what they can moan at I do not know, they havn't got to make the journey with 4 little "Are we nearly there yet's" Eek

I say to everyone do what's best for you, what feels right for you! Lets not get to 60 and sit and wonder "what if..."

Last but not least I fully agree with the NSPCC comment! well said! It cheers me up no end this forum, when I'm getting in a tiz over certificates, visa's,permits, quals, job offers and then I start to ponder on off shore bank accounts, exchange rates and the state of NZ's housing market! Does it ever end? Will I ever get a good nights sleep again? So some humour keeps me going! Nutcase

Well bye all I think this is my longest posting ever best grab a coffee it's going to be another long night! Rolling Eyes Smile

You were right, everything is okay, we have made a decision, we are figuring that since there is an election here in the UK next year, that the govt won't want a crash in the market, we are going to hold out till next April/May, then yipeeeeeeee we are off to NZ, i'm so excited, i can wait 10 months and it'l give us something great to look forward to. We told our mothers about 12 months before we did it. it gave them time to come to terms with it, spend more time with the kids and be involved in our plans. They both stepped up to help us and it was therapy for all of us. Don't leave it to the last minute and make it too much of a suprise.....you are doing the right thing Lisa!

Smile Smile Thanks guys Nice One

We have been planning to emigrate for years now, Mum is ok i guess, i told her we'll buy a large house so she can come and stay as often and for as long as she likes, my partners parents are deceased so he hasn't the problem i have.
Luckily my mum understands why we are leaving and she knows her grandkids will be growing up in a better environment. Smile

Yipeeeeeeeee i'm off to New Zealand, dreams can come true Yes

Hi everyone,

Just checking back in after a few days vacation. A lot has happened on this site over the last week or so, it is going to take a few days to catch up! Is this site just becoming well known or does the increased traffic reflect a growing general dissatisfaction with the "old world" etc? Certainly seems to be more and more people looking at taking the plunge.

House went on the market on Monday, so now just waiting to see what interest we get. NZQA application went off yesterday, assuming comes back positive nothing to really stop us moving ahead with planned arrival in NZ in Jan/Feb 05.

Mother in law informed of plans last Sunday, not as bad as it could have been but we are still waiting for it to really sink in. Bound to be some fall out sooner or later. Still have to tell father, not expecting that to be too much of an emotional rollercoaster but you never know. Somewhat bizarrely the one we are most concerned with is the stepmother, she is really attached to the (grand) children and we are expecting tears etc with that one.

Oh well, July looks like it will be a "wait and see" month for us now. Apart from a bit of daydreaming, there is not a lot more we can do now until we have certainty on the NZQA and whether we can shift the house reasonably quickly. Assuming these two do work out then it really will crank up (resigning from jobs, settling on departure dates, organising removals, what to do about the cat etc), but we are becoming surer by the day that we are doing the right thing (.....i think!).

Keep on plugging away!

Welcome back Lee & Nicky

I've been looking around for UK emigration figs myself - found this page which has lots of different opinions from people around the world on emigration to and from the UK.
