Ok, I may be being a little over-ambitious here but if we survive the selection process and get residency can we live in Fiji or is this covered by another visa?!!!

Moorf. You are getting ahead of yourself. Lol.
From what I can make out, you can visit all outlying islands as and when you like, but I dont know about LIVING there.
I will ask the guys at fishing net, as they are always flitting around between various exotic locations.

LOL Timbo - I rather think I am... the selection has really put the spanner in the works - too much choice now that we aren't necessarily tied to finding IT and marketing jobs!!

Now dreaming of a backpacker hostel .... with bookshop of course!!

Bula Moorf!

I used to live in Suva...I opened a branch office for my company there. I had a flat on Princes road. Memories!!!! I was only there for 6 months and to be honest I was glad to return to NZ. I know these places seem like paradise but like many things the truth is rather different. I found doing business theree quite difficult and corruption and rip offs abound....all part of life in the islands. Ex-pats everywhere and the diving is great. I saw my first reef shark in Fiji. Don't want to put you off but visit first! It's not just laid back....it's almost stationary!!!!! A lot of garment factories there and a big expoer market in finished textile good to Australasia, Tourism and Agriculture eg Coffee are the core businesses.

History is measured in rpm!!!!! Claim to fame.....I once dated Colonel Rambuka's cousin, and met a Fijian Princess that new the Royal Family rather well........Amazing who you meet at the Suva Travellodge!

Happy days!!!! Keep off the Kava......the locals are friendly beyond belief!

Bula Karl!!

Just thrashing through ideas really... we will definitely visit. Funny to see all those reasons for thinking twice are the same reasons we crossed off Barbados from our list a few years back - I have a very good friend there who is desperate for us to move out there!!

Plus, the ex-pat scene in Barbados is just not what we wanted....

Cheers for info Karl...

And Carol Vorderman... last time we were there we spotted her drunk and face down on the floor giggling and taking pics of her mother doing a limbo competition (which my friend won!! haha)...

Christ she gets EVERYWHERE!

I just reconsidered that last post.
Maybe on that basis, Nz is not such a good idea given that Mr Barrymore now lives there. Smile

One of our crew hotels is next door to Sandy Lane, Michael Winner used to wander up the beach muttering something about a commercial.

Can't stand the place, over rated, over priced. Thats my travel guide to Barbados.

Pretty much how we see it Michelle - been there a few times now. The first time I went in the late 80's it was great but it has changed lots since then.

Very overpriced and the expats out there scared us!!

Plus, too small - only takes a couple of days to see the whole island!!

We crossed South Africa off our "possible" list earlier this year too... can't remember why now... the country and property in George (Garden Route) was stunning but safety was an issue I think!

Still on list is Canada and Oz (needs more research and I need therapy for my bug phobia!). Hoping we won;t need to use our other choices!!

The East coast is stunning but I just don't get the West Coast and why anyone would spend 9 hours on an aircraft to get there is a mystery to me I dont like beach holidays and even if I did I STILL don't see the appeal.

South Africa is wonderful but have been to parts a bit more of the beaten track in Kwa Zulu Natal that are very scary. Security is an issue but I love the country.

Canada is like a much bigger NZ but Richard can't work there so no.

Australia was until recently a real possibility Richard was offered a great job in Brisbane but due to very bad luck we lost out. The rules changed which made it very difficult for him to requalify. He was offered a job one day the rules changed the next.

As you say too many bugs everything that slithers crawls and even swims is determined to sting bite or eat you.
