Does anyone know how long it takes to be assigned a case officer when applying for PR?

Two weeks after handing in our app at NZIS London we've had a letter saying it's being looked after by a "file manager" and is waiting for a case officer to "become free" (do they turn into hippies?). At the time we handed it in they said the processing time was a month (partnership policy). I guess this is a month once a case officer gets hold of it.

We went ahead and bought our plane tickets yesterday (woo hoo!) to take advantage of deals for booking ahead. Nov 10th should be safe for getting the visa shouldn't it? ... fingers crossed

cheers

If visa isn't sorted in time then I guess you can go on a Visitors Visa and finish the process from NZ?

yea i reckon we would do that - i think you have to fly out of the country and return again with your new visa to get it turned into a permit. or do you?

we just bought one-way tix to NZ though - how happy would they be with someone turning up with a visitors visa and a one way ticket?!

Matt - I think Sandra posted something about this - and the advice was to perhaps get an onward ticket to Oz or something... can't find the thread Hmmm

As far as I'm aware to be allowed in on a visitors permit you MUST have a ticket for onward travel or a return ticket.

Hi matt

We were assigned a case officer by name when we received our invitation to apply. She signed the letter detailing everything that we needed to provide.

I spoke with my case officer (not rubbing it in .... honest Smile )and she said that the processing times for pr are 4-6 weeks, and if we needed a quick turn around we should write our inteded date of flying on the folder.

We've booked our flight for 1st October and still don't have our visa's.

Don't know whether this helps or not.

My partner lodged his PR Partnership application with NZIS London on 21 July, got the acknowledgement letter dated 4 August, got another letter dated 9 August advising "Approved in Principle" subject to payment of migrant levy. Payment has now been sent and we are just awaiting his passport to be returned to us with the PR permit in it. Very speedy indeed!

Hi

Moorf's right - I posted yesterday.

You can't go in with a one-way ticket on a visitor's visa - Dave just checked with NZIS for me. But Ruthyroo says the cheapest option is to get an onward flight to OZ, but then you need an OZ visa as well.

I'll see what they quote me in work for the return ticket - may not be much more.

I'll have my fingers crossed for you.

I'm just hoping we sell our flat as soon as - luckily, we have time on our side, although it would be nice to get home before Christmas.

Thanks, same to you

Our house sold to the 3rd couple, within 7 days of being on the market so I hope you're as lucky.

If it's a decent property though I wouldn't have thought you have much of a problem in London

Sadie,

Wow - that's good going.

Ours has been on market since Monday and we have had five viewings and more for the weekend, but you are right, it shouldn't be too hard to sell (not wanting to jinx us at all!).

I don't know about you, but I found it really difficult not to have desparate written accross my forehead, when people came to look round.

.... so i took to drinking before I let them in. i was far more chilled that way Razz
