This may seem a very trivial question when there are the other billions of questions when thinking of emigrating, but when trying to decide which part of NZ to apply for jobs then IT IS a very important point!!
We really like the sound of Chch and potential jobs for us have come up there but we can't find any info about the nearby beaches. Books, websites tell you about the stunning beaches further north but nothing around Chch. We really like the idea of having nearby beaches suitable to 'pop to' on weekends with our 2 children aged 6 and 4.
If anybody who has been to Chch has any info it would be great and answer yet another question!! |

Dear Donna, this is just a short note (sorry) My wife and I just arrived in christchurch (1 week ago) and some friends drove us around the city as we are checking out areas to live. We saw some nice beaches including Sumner which is a lovely bay just south of the city towards banks peninsular we were impressed (although that wouldnt take much coming from Northampton UK). There is a longer strip of beach over at Brighton but I heard it gets real windy. I get the impression that there are a few other beaches near by. I am sure that some other members who are long term residents would be much better informed....regards 925exile.
ps Christchurch seems like a real nice city, very laid back and prettyand i think your question is important, you dont give up you life and travel this far to settle for anything less than what you want. |

Hi 925exile, I hope things are going well for you. Donna, Sumner has a lovely beach. I can't say that they water is exactly tropical though. Speaking of wind - yes, we've had to leave the beach a couple of times becaue the wind got up so much that it was blowing into our faces/eyes. This doesn't happen often though. To be honest, if being a beach-bum is your thing, Karl's location might suit you better owing to the warmer water. |
