Hi,

Well, we begin our first step towards reaching NZ on Friday when the removals lorry leaves Scotland bound for Sussex where I have small flat we are using for a "base"! We've given up jobs the lot - we are free to do as we choose...

We're going for it.... but what is the next best step?

We think that we should take a month out and got to NZ ChChurch area, organise interviews for the time we are there for hubbys job (I.T) on POL.

BUT are we unlikely to get any interviews as no visa application in the pipeline? Should we get a Work To Residence application in place or do we need the job offer first???? Confused

I note alot of jobs say must have visa or resident or whatever. We have had a letter from an emigration "consultancy" who said our initial assessment showed we had an "above average" chance of getting a "visa" ! Is it worth showing perspective employers this letter?

How are recruitment agencies in ChChurch ./ Canterbury - are they good at helping in these situations - or will they not put us up for interview?

All views welcome and experiences please.

Thanks
Moorf

We came out 2, 1/2 yrs ago. We did'nt use a agency as all they want is your cash. we've met people who came over through a agency payed loads of money, got here and that was the last they heard of them. I'm sure there are some good ones out there, just be careful. All you need to find out is on the NZ Imigration web site. Try and do it yourself, you might find you need all the money you can get, and if you've got 1/2 a brain cell between you both you can do it all when you get here., get your police records to bring with you. Your medical you do over here.
Imigration is a nightmare in Auckland because it has to deal with 90% of the inflow, Christchurch is alot faster.
We came on holiday, I got a job offer then took that to Imigration who gave me a work visa, it meant my Partner could then take any job offer. Then went for PR, we had the points = we got PR. Imigration here in NZ will help you with all the forms.
Good luck.

Hi Moorf,

1) come out to NZ and have police certs with you, only a tenner and last 6 months!
2) Find Job and get offer of employment.
3) Get a work visa granted for 2-3years LTWV multiple entry if possible, useful if you need to dash back to the UK for any reason in an emergency!
4) On getting the work visa + Job = extra 50 points for you PR EOI.
5) Watch the immigration website to see what the EOI pool selectons are doing.
6) Apply for PR when the points drop to an acceptable level.
7) Wait and wait and wait until you get selected!
8) Welcome to the land of the long white cloud!

So I gather there are immigration offices that can sort paperwork etc for us for a work permit in Christchurch itself?

Yep all major cities have NZIS offices to handle visas but EOI/PR can only be done via Wellington at present. Nutcase

I've spoken to Elan IT and Hudson, they are recruitment consultants. Both have been very responsive but as yet I think the lack of a visa is the big stumbling block, chicken and egg time!!

Is it the case, as I've seen in this forum somewhere, that if you get a work visa while in NZ it only lasts for 9 months, but getting it in the UK means you can get it for up to 3 years? We're off to Christchurch in a few weeks for a fortnight, I know it's not long but I have my fingers crossed that a potential employer might just snap me up! fingers crossed

Mark.
