Hi Everyone,

After what seems like a lifetime away from you wonderful people I'm back!

My hard drive packed up and I've had one hell of a game with the manfacturer in the UK to replace it!

I wont bore you all with the details..its just good to be back...so wazz up???

Some interesting threads I see. I will need a couple of days to catch up with the Goss but now for some of my own!

Despite keeping NZIS updated with changes of address and circumstances such as changes of address and passport numbers and despite getting post from Wellington confirming these changes, our case officer has been appointed in LONDON!

She's really nice and on the ball but get this......THERE ARE TWO SYSTEMS RUNNING...I am told that although our details were indeed updated in Wellington the information did not get transfered to this "other" system , the one for selected EOI's one assumes, therefore they sent our invitation to our old UK address instead of our NZ one!! Luckily we have some very switched on neighbours who forwarded this information to us via our family! i contacted NZIS London (Christine...bless her) and she tells me that if if she processes everything in London she can have our PR through in 3-4 weeks as opposed to several months if we use Auckland! Very serendipidous for us I'm sure you'll agree!!

This does however highlight a glaring inefficiency in the system does it not?

If the invitation had not reached us our application would have lapsed and we would never have known because a letter sent from Wellington to our NZ address said we had been selected but the essential info pack was sent to the UK....VERY IMPRESSIVE......NOT!

Nutcase Nice One cool

Hi Karl

I was in a similar situation to you re EOI. I flew out to NZ just as my application was being processed. My case officer in London was great and there was no problem what so ever. I got PR really quickly and efficently. I am sure it will be no problem for you either.

How are you settling in NZ? I am very unsettled to be honest - feel very homesick and I am so cold!! The UK looks very attractive at the moment as it basks in tempretures of 29 degrees :(

Hi Karl,

It's not just those caught "in transit" who have been transferred to London. I'm based in Wellington and have been for nearly a year now, and my case has been transferred over there too.

I understand it's because the NZ offices are all swamped with the heavy weighting currently towards on-shore applicants. However, if it means it's through in a matter of weeks rather than months, I'm not complaining :o)

I finally got all my documentation together, so should be submitting my application in the next day or so.

Sorry to hear you're feeling a little homesick Susan :o( I guess winter's not the best time to be moving countries. I will say though that NZers don't know anything about heating houses!!

Good luck all

Hi Susan,

Sorry to here you're feeling homesick....it will pass believe me! if this is your first migration its normal to have these feelings when the realisation of the enormity of what you are doing sets in. Particularly when you are starting from scratch trying to make new freinds and leaving freinds and family behand. I rationalise it like this:- Its a big world out there.....go and experience it...if NZ is not for you never be too embaressed to hold your hand up and sorry I tried it and didn't like it! But at least try it first!!! I've done it twice and in a funny way you have to do it twice if only to convince yourself that you have done the right thing. Give it a fair go though and don't make any snap decisons. ChCh is cold this time of year and winter doesn't help unless like me you are an avid skier!

We are settling in just fine but I know my way around having lived here for 3 years back in 1987-1991 so I've already experienced the cultural changes and knew what to expect. I also have the advantage of having several good freinds with whom I have kept in touch with over the years.

Once you have a few freins around you thing will look brighter! Where are you working??

Hi Evelynne,

nice to know I'm not alone with the PR thing...chin up what!

Karl Smile
