Hi All,

Just read some information on a web site posted by Graham: http://www.macleod.co.nz/. They indicate that, if you do not have a job offer in NZ, that an interview with NZIS will be necessary. Further, they say that if the interview is successful that you will be given a 2 year open work permit during which time you have to have a job in your chosen field for 3 months before being granted residency.

This is new information to me, can anyone verify this? Opinions?

Hi markkellaway,

I guess we need to wait and see how NZIS deals with this situation as this is the first time that EOI's without job offer are selected.
I also read somewhere that if you do not have a job offer, they'll give you an open work visa for two years and in that time you have to demonstrate the ability to find a job in your intended skill category. Once you are successful in this task and continue to work in the job for 3+ months, they remove the condition on your residency and move you into residence category from open work permit.
This is what I gathered from my search and 'am not sure if this is the way it is......anyone else who can comment??
Very Puzzled

Hi All,

Just did some routing around on the NZIS site and found this URL:

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/workandlivepermanently/howdoiapply/theprocess/default.htm

This is the relevant section:

"Step 5: Decision-making
We’ll assess your application for residence against Government residence policy and look at your ability to settle successfully and make a real contribution to New Zealand’s social and economic development.
We’ll also undertake to verify some of the information you’ve told us in your Expression of Interest.

And depending on how you’re able to demonstrate your ability or potential to successfully settle in New Zealand:
your application may be approved and you’ll be granted a Residence Visa or Permit
or
you may instead be granted a Work Visa or Permit, which will enable you to establish yourself in skilled employment in New Zealand and help you gain residence
or
your application may be declined."

So it looks like they woyuld address this on a case by case basis, reading between the lines it looks to be on how likely you are to get a job in your chosen field and so make the contribution to NZ indicated in the application.

Cheers,

Mark. Smile
